I heard it's really good.
Watch it on HDTV :aok
-
Im not going to watch one second of those games.
Its an obscenity that the free world is even there. I'll add the Olympic commitee to my list of despised, hypocritical, anti-US, little red book carrying International organizations. I'll put it right up there with the United Nations, that I think we should empty and bulldoze into the ocean for sport fishing structure. At least that way it would serve some purpose.
The Chinese Government Suuuuucks!

I'm watching it; it's not that great. Honestly, the opening ceremonies of every single Olympics are always wierd & flakey. The fireworks is always the best part... that & maybe some of the songs performed (like Il Divo a few years back).
I'll watch. If we've got our boys & girls there, I'll cheer them on regardless if the hosts are less than favorable.
-
Really REALLY enjoyed it :)
-
Interesting to say the least. Strange times are sure to come, not during the Olympics or anything but in the years ahead.
Also interesting regarding the Taiwan situation, Were they not allowed to fly there own flag? Not called Taiwan but Taipei? Japans entrance was very quiet.
Seems like everybody being bending over for them. US Cycling team was forced to make a public apology after arriving wearing masks, we all know how bad the air is over there, but the Chinese take it as an insult after they clear cars off the streets in an effort to improve air quality. Could you imagine if they did that here?
Then they deny the VISA of former Olympian Joey Cheeks, because fears he might speak out against the PRC.
President Bush was clearly bored, Rosie and I caught him peeking at his watch.

Same in 2004, Taiwan was called Taipei.
-
Japans entrance was very quiet.
Really?
On CBC the anchormen noted that Japan, Canada, and Russia got a large applause and were much bigger than the US.
-
my god...
I'm watching it right now.
The countdown was.......EPIC!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Loved the top view of the Bird's Nest.

You will need some more tissue if you keep it up.

Sorry, Tibet alone is reason of for me to not give a damn.
-
Finished the first hour....
The whole thing is set up as if it's........ cinematic. It's almost intimidating, because we all know we won't see a production like this for some time...
absolutely fabulous production so far....
moving LCD scroll .... amazing
good gods the chinese kids are cute... :D

Talked to UPS, the new case of tissues is getting expedited :rock

It certainly put '36 to shame. Almost enough to make one forget about Tienanmen Square! Who's going to be '08's Jesse Owens?
The best opening ceremony a trade deficit can buy.
Charon

Think how much could have been accomplished if they put the money towards something else...
-
two-bit commie nations sure know how to put on a show.
-
Really?

Did they cheer the Wallmart Team too?
-
I just saw part of it and that stadium is amazing, that huge video screen that wraps around it is very cool, and the fireworks display was one of the best I've seen, I just can't imagine the money spent on this thing.
-
Just curious but I heard that some of the people running, doing events would wear the Tibetan Flag on their shirt. I wonder if any will do it? If I were the U.S. I'd boycott the Olympics AND China till Tibet was a free nation.
-
I forgot to mention that I just had my 4 yr old tube HDTV professionally calibrated.
Calibration is DEFINITELY worth it.
-
...and so Tibet and Darfur are sacrificed on the altars of our sports gods...
-
Think how much could have been accomplished if they put the money towards something else...
Yeah..we could have had tons more cheap junk sent over to us for purchase to support a commie country.
Why we are even there is beyond me.

Tell that to the relative of the U.S. Mens Volleyball coach who was stabbed and killed today. BTW, you wasted your money on paying for a Pro. You should've bought a DVD and done it yourself.
-
Anyone know if they're going to replay it?
-
They replayed it here in the wee hours of the morning.
It was pretty spectacular. Way better than the parade of pickup trucks in Atlanta.
-
I'll add the Olympic commitee to my list of despised, hypocritical, anti-US, little red book carrying International organizations.
I added it when the added synchonized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics; then snowboard, synchonized diving and now BMX racing is an olympic sport.
The Gods of Olympus are not pleased.
-

I did DVDs before a pro did it. The pro did bring up hidden settings that i've not seen before, and made adjustments to squeeze out the last 20% of my HDTV potential. It's worth it.

"Speed Walking" kinda did it for me.

The opening ceremonies were indeed impressive. Now, bring forth the Yao for his 40 pt. spankin'. :D

The opening ceremony was just amazing, I don't know if anyone else has already mentioned this, but they spent $300,000,000 on it, thats 10 times more then any other country has spent on it.
-

Tell me about it.
Particularly when I see them comming from some of the brightest minds I've found anywhere.
And Im not speaking of only the olympic comments either.
That being said. and beyond that. The Olympics are about the games and the atheletes and not politics.
I've always been against any Olympic boycott for any political reason.

Having been there and seen the conditions of everything...it kinda reverses the cool factor of it.

I've been to Bejing too, and I still think the opening was impressive.

Impressive, yes. Just as depressing.

NBC's camera work for the swimming competition so far SUCKS!
They keep switching to odd angles where you cant see if the swimmers are gaining or falling behind.

So in the women's 400 Indiv Medley,
An Aussie wins the gold, first woman under 4:30
A Zimbabwean from lane 1 gets silver, also under 4:30 beating the WR except coming in 2nd in this race.
An American rounds out the medals. The current record holder, now 3rd best time ever recorded.
So the medal ceremony starts and NBC shows (of course) the Aussie proudly listening to her country's anthem.
NBC shows the American, wishing it was the SSB playing instead,
NBC neglects to show silver medalist Kirsty Coventry at all. The only woman from her country to ever medal in Olympic swimming. Winning one of each color in Athens, she now backs it up in Beijing.
Of the five medals awarded Zimbabweans, Coventry has 4, the 1980 women's Field hockey team getting the solitary other (Gold).
Apparently Coventry did not deserve much airtime.
 NBC idiots

Maybe Coventry got good coverage in her own country? I think I can understand NBC focusing it's spotlight on US athletes as that is where NBC broadcasts?
Let Zimbabwe covers it's swimmers. Can't imagine if NBC tried to focus special attention on all non-USA medal winners.
