4- An intense bomber mission being chased after by nothing but 262's.
Was that you? ;-)
Yesterday some Bishops launched a half dozen B-17 formations out of A143 in the Blue Arena, climbed out to like 20k, and headed west into Nit country. Three of us saw the darbar in the middle of the island and knew it could mean only one thing, and launched 262s to intercept. My squadmate WormZilla and I downed 5 bombers each, and oTimmyo downed 2 or 3 before he saddled up on a B17 and got himself killed. We were dodging Pony escorts the entire time. I believe the rest of the B-17s were eventually cleaned up by Nits who launched and intercepted in other planes over and near the target area. Good times!
Of my 10 joys in Aces High is downing another 262 while flying a 262. Thought about rationally, that shouldn't be that big of a deal, but when I've done it I was on cloud 9.
Another joy is killing a pristine and turning CV group with a set of AR234s. A CV requires 8000 lbs of bombs to kill, and an AR234 formation with three 500kg bombs per bird is carrying 9900 lbs, which basically requires a direct hit from all the bombs of all three birds to kill it.
Another joy, though I feel ashamed of myself every time I've done it, is killing a formation of AR234s in a 262. I fly the 234 a fair bit myself, and I know that when you're cruising around at 425 indicated or whatever the max speed is, you get this feeling of invulnerability. Nothing, but nothing pops that balloon quite like the sight of an enemy 262. It's a feeling of dread, a sinking feeling, a feeling of "oh sh**". And it's almost a dick thing to do to impose that feeling on someone else. Still, when I'm up in a 262 and spot a flight of 234s, I just can't help myself. Muahahahahahaha!
Oh yeah, one more joy. Killing a Tiger in a T34. That's another cloud 9 thing.
-

I fly 234's 90% of the time I'm in buffs. I've only ever been chased by 262's twice. One I killed and the other time I smoked his engine, he couldn't keep up with me anymore and broke off.
Muahahahahahaha!

Having fun, plain and simple :aok

I got killed in a 262 by a guy in a single 234 last month. I got some hits on him but failed to break anything important. He was flying that thing like a wildman, and eventually I got into a great position and was lobbing some taters up into him and drifted up into his six, where he had tracers off (apparently, as I didnt' see any) and hit me with his tailgun 20s. It was a great fight, actually, and I didn't feel too bad about losing the 262. In separate actions last month I did kill nine other AR234s. I guess I haven't been fortunate enough to run into you. ;-)

Hitting a plane with so many hispano rounds all that is left is the fuselage with nothing else.
Ripping apart a conga line on a friendly.

9) Orbiting the water-tower of a capped field in a PINK Spitfire Mk I and taking potshots at people, and receiving proxies as the Rooks/Bish swarm to try and kill me :lol
9a) Sitting in the FH of a capped field in a Spitfire Mk I, and getting pings and then proxies on people trying to vulch me sitting in the hangar

Busting up a Vulch fest on an air base just using the manned ack. Nothing sweeter taking down the entire hoard of Vultures. Or hitting bombers at 13000 feet with manned ack & watch them start firing from rear guns & nothing is there for them to shoot at.
-

And how much lead do you need to have for that?
-
And how much lead do you need to have for that?
Cant describe it. It is for the most part just a gut feel as to where I need to fire & watch where my tracers are going & adjust accordingly. For the most part high bombers that are coming toward me I take one look as to the direction they are going & I don't see them again until they are over me or past me. If i was to guess better that half a screen or more.
-
1.Seeing a P.O.T.W. or G.R. swarm over an enemy base.
2.NOT seeing an L.T.A.R. swarm protecting same base.
3.NOT seeing SHawk circling like a vulture over same base.
4.Seeing BldEagl BEFORE he sneaks up behind me.
5.Crushing your enemys.
6.Watching them flee before you.
7.Hearing the lamentations of the enemy aces.
8.Actually being able to see what Im shooting from my GV.
9.Landing 4 victorys without "losing-it" on the runway.

9. Those moments were for 1/2 a second it feels 'real'
10. A knife fight that leaves my heart racing a little faster and my hands shaking a little bit from bending the stick along with wondering how I survived.
-
I like hitting RATOs in 234s and accelerating out of trouble. Thats why I never take off using them.
Just a few weeks ago I was in on a heavily contested field at 10k in a formation of 234s. I dropped and noticed a 190 coming in with about 6k on me. :uhoh I timed it perfect, hit RATOs, turned gently, and went into a shallow dive. Its amazing how fast those 234s can get when flown like that.
Anyway I took a few thumps but was able to land all 3 safely.
I guess another joy is getting kills in a P-38. I simply love that airplane.

Yep, that was us. I had a feeling it would end up that way, hence the reason for the Pony escorts. :aok

Well keep them coming. Massive buff raids are really fun, both for the side trying to get their buffs through to hit the enemy target, and for the side trying to stop them. It's one of those things that you do not because it's necessarily tactically necessary, but because you can. It's a bunch of guys putting a chip on their shoulder and then daring the other side to knock it off.
For some more fun, next time try escorting your buffs with 262s. I've never seen it done, but it would be cool to see someone try. Fuel would be the biggest concern, but if you climbed out to like 25k and throttled way back until enemy contact was imminent, it could be done.

Take a 262 up to 25k in AH11 you will soon see that it is a pig to fly. Plus it would be next to useless as a fighter deterant that high up.

Yeah, I know, I've flown the 262 that high many times. I'm saying use it as a fighter escort so when the enemy shows up with his 262s you have a chance at least of catching him. We had no problem dodging the Pony escorts even though the 262 is a dog at that altitude. Anyhow, it would be fun to try.

Getting everyone in the squad to get SHawk to killshoot himself on them.

Been there, done that, except I was in a 109F4, and I only killed 3 of the LTARs' 12 goons before they dropped. Arg.

I was wandering around enemy territory the other day all by myself and came upon an noe mission of 38's and 110's, one goon. There they were, on the deck and I was the only friendly for two sectors. I got 7, including the goon in a running fight towards our base. The noe actually made it to within sight of the base before other friendlies arrived and finished the scraps.
