not that im asking for planes to be fixed....cuz that im sure has been asked for before. (but i do want that feature)
anyways, im sure some aircraft damage is way easier to fix than replace a turret on a Tiger.
and if you can fully repair 4 cannons on a wirbelwind in less than a second, is fixing one or two 50 cals on a pony unrealistic.
i apologize for the similarity of this thread to other current ones, but i feel that my argument deserves a new thread.
remember, my actual question is: Why do gvs get fixed and not planes?
(this is under wishlist because something needs to be changed, all fixed or none fixed)

Any damage to GV either make it immobile or takes it out of fight. Generally you cannt return to base after that unless you already within it. That makes GV repair important part of gameplay.
Planes repair only serves to scorepadding purposes.

Baseline is GV damage is easier to fix than aircraft damage. GVs are more rugged and can handle 'manhandled' field repairs better.

I agree completely on the first point. If the damage is severe like main gun or tracks or engine the GV should not have an "instant" repair. I don't see anyone willing to wait 30mins for re-tracking a tank (im guessing here cause I really have no experience with tanks) so in game maybe damage repair for GVs should take more time.
IMHO time should be allocated on basis of damage on GVs and even the rearm/refuel for aircraft should depend on amount being refueled/reloaded. For e.g. if loading 25% fuel takes 30sec, then 100% should take 2 mins.
As far as the turret on the WW/OSTI goes, killing the turret isn't damage to guns. It simulates killing the soft pink body of human flesh operating the guns. So when you resupply, its not the guns that get fixed, but that M3 or SDkf (more appropriate I guess :D) just brought you a new gunner.

I'm against this. Its much easier to land (refunding your perks) then re-spawn to fix any plane-damage. A tank however has to travel a few miles sometimes taking up to 10 minutes to "land" then re-spawn. Imagine doing this to stay in a furball. This is why supplies help keep the tank in the action so the player can continue his or her fun.

what about in fso were you only get one plane? if you make it back to base shouldnt you be able to get a new 50 cal in the plane.
people often use the argument "why dont you just land and get a new plane". this is more unrealistic than fixing a little (not catastrophic damage). so you cant actually use that argument.
and if the player does have to leave a furball to fix some damage...its that players choice. it wouldnt be taking away from their fun because they are the person that decides if they want to get there plane fixed.

Also take note that aircraft have a decent amount of "downtime" where they're out of the fight, either returning to the fight or their base. In most cases, GV fights are instant encounters that are much more difficult to escape from when damaged.

i agree with this but i would like to see the Vehicle Supp. take 30 sec to fix your tank because even being injured would remove you from the fight
i know those spawn campers might be mad

remember, my actual question is: Why do gvs get fixed and not planes
Because gv's have the ability so long as someone takes the time and effort to drive them the supply's.
Short of a outright kill, the gv's can resupply, something aircraft must land taxi and reup to accomplish, all while the gv' is still out on the field of battle.

ya...whats ur point?
a plane should be able to land taxi and take some time to get fixed (minor damage). thats reasonable
would be very useful in FSO.

Yes, but 'Minor damage' would be running a hose on your cockpit to get some of that oil off, but you'll still have the leak...

itd take w hile......you cant just slap one up there and say "thats good enough, hell come home with another 5 kills now" you need to make sure it works before its used, no? any flaws with a repair need to be fixed before further use, no?
-
Because they breed like rabbits. Just check any airfield under attack.
I guess I should read the original post now huh?

isnt it the same deal with tanks? you cant just slap on a new turret and have it working right...???

I'm sure there was some maintenance testing to make sure the equipment was working correctly but for the most part, repairs were done as quickly as possible to get the tanks back on on the field.
ack-ack

FSO is why i think planes should be able to be fixed a little. i dont think the pilot would mind waiting a little so he could get back with his friends. whats better logging off or waiting?
