Title: Gun Camera
Post by: funked on September 11, 2000, 04:48:00 PM
I would like a real gun camera.

It turns on when I start shooting and runs for a few seconds afterwards.  All footage from a given sortie is stored in the same reel (file).

Right now I have to either record the whole sortie or remember to fiddle with the recorder when I enter and exit an engagement.  So I either get huge files that I have to FF through for the money shot or I am too busy and forget to turn it on.  So I don't get much utility out of the recorder much as-is.

The current recorder is still useful at times, but if I could hit alt-g and get a real gun camera, that would rock.

It would be a real nice feature.

I use Game Commander and have a command to start and stop filming. Easy to do becuase I don't have to take my hands off stick to start or stop the film, just say "Gun Camera"

Still, I have to remember to say it.

I think it would be easy/nice (if HTC is reading this) to make the film start and stop buttons different. When they are the same, you can get the toggle out of sequence from programmable sticks, which can be very annoying.

I had it set up on my Thustmaster FLCS to toggle film ON when I pulled the trigger, and toggle again 4 seconds after I released. This worked ok, but If I did multiple short bursts with the trigger, the toggle would get out of sequence. Seperate buttons would fix that easy.

What we need is a black and white (color if appropriate and realisic) gun camera, that only runs when a gun is fired, and only records a limited field of view- ie only suff in front of camera, no outside view.

I'd just like the film that we have now, but I would like the option to enable filming to start when I fire guns, and to continue for a few seconds afterwards.

I think it's a good idea.  As long as it's an option I can enable or disable, it would rock.

Hmmm.  Maybe I can program my Sideweener to do this anyway.  Hmmm.

I'd like a trigger-activated Gun Cam as well.

I haven't been able to figure out how to program the command AND the fire button at the same time while still keeping the ability to selectively fire a random number of shots.

That is, I can program it to turn on the camera and fire a fixed amount and then turn the camera off. But I can't program that way enabling variable length shots.

Anyone been able to do it?

I'm just going to make mine turn on the camera, then fire.  I won't worry about turning it off too much.  I can remember to do that... maybe.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  The real problem is that the next time I pull the trigger, I toggle the film back off again, so when firing bursts it doesn't really work right.

It's a thing for now, but I'd still like to see a "real" guncam type thing.

I'd like to see:

[ ] Enable Guncam
Run camera for

Either that or something that turns the film on whenever an enemy is within D 3.0 or less in my view.  That would rock.

Been fooling a bit with this offline.

One problem that I don't think the players can address is that in one flight you can quickly end up with a dozen really short films.

Would be nice to have the film "save" from spawn to death or exit. That way all those little bursts are on one film instead of a dozen.

I think HTC would have to do this, tho.

Yeah, rgr Toad that would rock.  In addition to having only one film file, you would have each "streak" filmed.  How cool would that be?  If it just worked automatically, could end up with film of every kill in that 8 kill sortie you just landed.  Sweet.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i really dont care for a "real" gun camera, but we DESPERATELY need

1) be able to use mouse as a panning device in film (cannot do it now like i can when flying)

2) crop films

3) have option to name films as soon as you stop recording (i dont stop recording anyways until im in tower or disengaged so i will have time to type in the name)
