White coloured P-39s are rare in VVS service, and this ex-RAF P-400 is surely one of the most attractive. '77' was photographed in service with the 6th Independent Fighter Eskadrilya on the Northern Front, winter of 1942-43. The pilot has been identified by two different authors as Yuri Penakov, presumably by appearance (the photo features no caption). 'Red 77' is very smartly finished in white MK-7 distemper, but the underside US applied Medium Grey seems to remain. The rudder seems to show the underlying colour through the white applique, however, giving a worn appearance. The national star marking is trimmed in yellow, giving a very nice appearance on the white background. - off of wing pallets
Awesome looking aircraft, I'd love to see this one!
IMHO the bottom profile looks more accurate, but maybe thats just me.

Those look silver either stripped of paint or painted silver.

Thats also what I thought when I first saw it. It could be, it may not be. Its to hard to tell.

That is the only "supposed" photo i have found of this aircraft. The information backing it up does seem pretty good though. I'll keep on with my search.

The air intake on the closest one is painted. What colour though?

With the dubious quality of the references, he may be holding off until he has more resources to base it upon.

Someone has called about all of these as "skins I am going to do". I would recommend searching the board and finding out who did that.
