Title: Shore Batts
Post by: JunkyII on August 11, 2008, 07:10:12 PM
Over the weekend I camped at a campground by Fort Miles. This is a historic sight that was used to defend the mouth of the Delware bay from german u-boats. There they had probably the same type of 8 inch gun we use in our shorebatts but they also had smaller guns with of course a shorter range. Maybe in some of the new map we can have these guns near towns so we can stop LVT sneaks alil easier.

The gun sizes that they had were 3 inchers 5 inchers and 6 inchers. The 8 inch gun was dwarfed by a 10 inch railroad gun  :devil

We really do need some kind of manned gun in or near the town for defence. It's very hard to get a plane up and over the town when a NOE raid has a massive cap on the field.

I like this idea!  :aok

First us map makers need the guns you're asking for(3, 5, and 6 inchers). Then we can talk.

Well the gun would probably be very light armoured unlike the 8 inch battery which can take a beating. I saw one of these batterys which holds the 8 inchers and the 3500 pounds seems on par for the ords which needs to go on it  :aok

Personally, I'd like to have the firing arc of the guns we have now expanded.
Nothing is more frustrating than watching some goober in a CV park it a mile
offshore just outside the arc of the gun.

It's not like the CVs wouldn't have the advantage anyway.  They move <rather quickly>
and completely outgun the single 8 inch in the SB.

And more guns  :aok

and completely outgun the single 8 inch in the SB.

btw, its not exactly true. SB much heavily armoured and even harder to hit than ships (for some strange reason I cannt aim SB in ground mode, range just keep jumping from say 9k (just before SB) to 11k (far behind SB)). In same time single hit from SB can take out dozen of cruiser's guns including one or two 8 inches.

Cruiser mounts 3 triple 8 inch turrets on a moving platform...how many SBs mount more than 1 on a static platform?

A 4 tube batt of 14in dissappearing guns, in open pits, with 360 traverse,
stereoscopic rangefinders, and 15minute downtime when destroyed....

that would be wayyyyycool...

The carrier jabos, would have to keep them down, or curtains for the fleet....

You mean cruiser mounts 3 fragile triple 8 inch turrets on a very predictable and quite slow moving platform?

I would love to see a couple 3" guns a couple hundred feet from the town, with most of the shore-line in their arc of fire. I'd say 1500 to 2500lbs to kill it? Maybe a 5" also with 3K to kill it.
