Title: 2008 NFL Thread
Post by: Ripsnort on August 14, 2008, 08:44:59 AM
Well, my team has lost 3 starting wide recievers (DJ Hackett to free agency, Dion Branch to a serious knee injury and no Bobby Ingram to a shoulder fracture.  It's not looking good for my Hawks.

How's your team shaping up in this pre-season?

I really like the Cowboys chances this year. They have a strong O-line and Romo appears to have finally matured.

Steelers look good, First Team Offense scored on 8 plays in 4 minutes, capped it off with Santonio Holmes TD. Charlie Batch broke his collar bone after trying to scramble.  Got to see Dennis Dixon (Rookie from Oregon) play.

We look great, but have a really hard schedule. One of the hardest in the NFL according to countless analysts. Dallas comes to Pittsburgh in December, Saving up now for tickets  :aok

We play Buffaronto tonight, in Toronto. LOL.

Things would have been cool with the Bucs if we had picked up Favre.  Things may be good this year here if Gruden stays with a quarterback long enough to let him do anything.

And the New England Cheatriots with the easiest schedule in the NFL this year. Go figure. :p

I'm still a Rodgers hater, but he did impress me a bit in the preseason game, but not the scrimmage the week before.

He may be hit or miss somedays.  I think the real question is, can he stay healthy.  I'm interested what the Jets will be like this year.  I'm sure many of you are sick of him and the 'circus', but that is for another thread.  I grew up with Brett and will always remain a fan, as long as he never plays for the ViQueens or da Bears.

Yeah. we played them last year at home, and again this year. They should at least be forced to come to Pittsburgh.

Been watching Hard Knocks on HBO about the Cowboys training camp -  pretty cool show. Being a big A&M fan, I was happy when Martelluss Bennett was going to the cowboys.
But after watching the show last night - It looks like he's got some residual "Big fish in a small pond" syndrome leftover from his Aggie days. If he gets his attitude straightened out I think he can be a suprise playmaker for the Cowboys.

We've been saying that about Pittsburgh for 10 years out West! :D  Matter of fact, I can't think of the last time Pittsburgh has played Seattle out west!

Well....the Rams continue to be stupid by letting their talents leave to free agency instead of wanting to resign them.  Only thing I can say is the defense has gotten stronger but the offense is lacking with little dept at WR kinda surprising to say since the Mike Martz system and Steven Jackson is still on holdout.

If only they can stay healthy this year.....

At least your teams have QB's.  Here is Chicago we have a hard fought out competition between Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.  I like Orton and hope he wins the completion.  I dont get why the Bears didnt look at Chad Pennington, Leftwich, or try and trade for Chris Simms.  All you guys are worried about your team.  At least you guys dont have the problems of the bears.  Probably worst team in NFL.

Go Bears :cry

Come to think of it, I don't remember any games played out there either.

Is it still an auto-draft league?

I'll have tto say the Cowboys are in pretty good shape....Romo looks well...a couple of good looking running backs. If the secondary can get some help...They'll have all the pieces I think.....Time will tell.

The Titans are looking pretty good in the preseason. Their O-line is much improved and their #1 draft pick is a little bit quick.

Backup QB Byron Leftwich brought the Steelers back in a fun Preseason win! After a Rashard Mendenhall fumble it looked to be over for the Steelers, then the Defense held and Leftwich drove the Steelers downfield with no time outs for a game winning Jeff Reed field goal.

Reed was 4 for 4 over all.

Well, regular season began here yesterday. Our team was down 26-0 in the first quarter!  :cry  Then the boys woke up. Final score was Puyallup 48--Auburn 38. A win!

Oh wait....wrong league. :D:D

Some pics I snapped of my son, he's # 57 and plays first string Linebacker and first string Offensive Tackle. He played every down yesterday including special teams and he's soaking his legs in the spa as I type. :)

Thanks Nef!  I wish he didn't that GD clear shield, high noon sun and face shields don't mix when trying to get the faces of athletes...at least the league doesn't allowed smoked shields!

Vikings.

Not looking too bad.
Seem to be getting better in every game.
Particularly when its first team against first team.

T. Jackson seems to have improved dramatically Though he still doesn't have me convinced.
Looking at the Division. The Bears, now that they have finally realised Grossman isnt the answer seem to be the only real threat in spit of Detroits pre season success.

I predict the will make the playoffs and may even win a game or two once there.
Good chance of winning the division.

HA!!

Told ya he was a linebacker first time I laid eyes on him.

Seems to take a good angle on the ball carrier too

Yep!  This is his second year as starting LB. His first year he was 2nd string LB, and second year he was a starting DE. That particular year that he played DE he got 12 sacks in 8 games.  He's got a nose for the ball and has his angles figured out. He's forced to use angles because he doesn't have the speed that alot of these RB and FB's have.
