WOW is all i have to say :O Phelps won the 100m Fly by .01 seconds, I didnt think he was gonna do it ! truley amazing they showed the highspeed camera image and it is worth a thousand words truely amazing, I wish I was half the swimmer he was.

Wow.. just simple.. Wow... Must sucks to be Canada... :P No offense to anyone out there.

The Serbian team is filing a protest about the results of the event, I do think that the other guy was faster and if we didn't have electronic measuring the judges would have said the other guy won, he was just for some reason slow on touching the wall.
-
Slow on touching the wall and that means the guy should have won? Are you frikkin kidding me? The first one to get to the wall is the winner. Phelps did, by .01 of a second. Champions finish races like that and win. They use the touch pads so the judges can't screw it up. The only one who screwed up was the guy Phelps touched out. Had he finished half as hard as Phelps did he would have spoiled it. Phelps wanted it more. Champions do that. The rest just don't. That's what makes the best who they are.
Way to go Michael Phelps.

I never said he should have won, I just said that if there was no electronic measuring system the judges would have said he won.

nah, it wasn't the electronics. it was crooked judges.
the losers should go throw their medals in the pool in protest. :rofl :noid

It was 2 different types of finishes. Phelps took an extra half stroke and basically flung himself into the wall. The other guy tried to glide in and came up a fingernail short. Pretty intense race.

Yeah, that is what I was basically getting at, the other guy had the race won, but he messed up on touching the wall, if he hadn't mis judged his attempt at touching the wall, Phelps would of had no chance at the win, because the other guy was just in front of him. If it was a finish style like track, a start finish line, the other guy would have won it.

Did anyone catch the interview with Phelps and Mark Spitz ? CLass acts, both of them. Nothing but praise for each other, nothing but modesty for themselves. They make me proud to be American. :salute

Touching the wall to finish the race in swimming is similar to leaning through the tape to finish the race in a sprint. It's an important technical aspect of the sport. Phelps did it better than the other guy so he won.

He was also "arms out of water" stretch for the finish, less resistance on his body, whereas the 2nd place winner was submerged (more water resistance) when he touched. .01 of a second, it doesn't get much closer than that!

I guess I'll say this again, I never said Phelps didn't win, or deserve to win, hell I'm glad he won, I was wanting him to win, but the other guy was faster, he just screwed up there at the end part of touching the wall, which allowed Phelps to win, he made a mistake. This is from the AP:
"In the next lane, Milorad Cavic was gliding to the finish, just inches from the gold, his arms no longer driving but just reaching for the end. That's all Phelps needed. He didn't have to be the fastest. Just first."
So as you can see the press even saw the race the way I did, that Phelps wasn't the fastest, but won because Cavic made a mistake, and I'll say this again, I'm glad Phelps won, but I'm not gonna gloss over the fact that if the mistake by Cavic hadn't happened Phelps wouldn't have won.

In that case, we are all going to have to disagree with you since the press always screws stuff up. :devil :rock

he didn't win. the other guys team is in conference with the judges right now, paying them off.
then it's going to come to light, that the other guys electronic pad was faulty, and they're gonna award the gold to him :noid :rofl

Why am I reminded of the American girl in the last Winter Olympics who had the Gold in snowboarding or whatever sewn up when she decided to stunt off a bump and wiped out?

i would try to come up with some sort of witty answer for that, but i can't, as i didn't see it or hear about it back then.
i don't really follow this stuff at all, and all i know about it is what i read from you guys(which robably means i'm in trouble :rofl)

If you watched that race and think that the other guy wasn't faster then your not watching it objectively.

Phelps just finished the most amazing Olympic performance in History.
8 for 8 :O

I remember that. What a boneheaded move.

Yes he did.
Best swimmer on the planet bar none.
Beat Mark Spitz record in a way even Mark Spitz said he was the greatest athlete ever...
The poor guy STILL looks like a dorkfish.
(BTW: With all those gold medals, you'd think at LEAST he'd learn his own national anthem, wouldn't you?)
