Title: 21.83 Drivers
Post by: aknimitz on October 12, 2001, 11:16:00 AM
Anyone tried these?  I have 'em in place, and at first had a 15FR boost sitting in the tower.  It is gone now though  :(

Just curious if anyone else is noticing an improvement with the new drivers.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you sure you completely removed the previous driver?

I was going to install this driver tonight, keep the forum updated if you get it work or not please.

Oh the driver works just fine.  I am just not getting a noticeable improvement.

But, I did not remove the previous driver before I installed this one.  I just installed this one.  I will try removing and rebooting, then reinstalling to see if that makes any difference.

I've got the Prophet II Pro, so I have the Hercules version of these new drivers (WHQL drivers always produced gfx bugs on my machine).

It has greatly improved the stability of my frame rate. I have the FPS capped at 60, but in the middle of a field with lots of smoke, the FPS never dropped below 40. With my old drivers (7.XX I think) I'd be lucky to maintain 20 FPS.

No compatibility problems in other games, so far.

+) Guys sometimes after installing nVidia drivers it may turn on FSAA by default.  If you seem to have taken a frame hit after installing new drivers, check your FSAA.

Free Surface Anti-Aliasing.  It is used to smooth out edges that you see and thus increase graphic performance.  This leads to a decrease in FR.

I had to turn off anti-aliasing (fsaa). I was only getting around 15-30FPS with it on, and now it's off I'm getting 70FPS solid.

I also reinstalled DirectX 8.0a. I do this actually after every Vid driver install just as a precaution.

For the record, on my machine at work (my computer is being held hostage by my ex), I am using a GeForce2MX, Win2k, 512MB 266 DDR, and AsusA7V266 Mobo.

Hmm... I actually got a decent boost at 1024x768x32--about 10 FPS.  Higher than that resolution I only got 1 FPS better.  I play at 1024x768 so I'd like to use these drivers, but when I alt-tab out and come back, I get really wierd psychadelic colors.

I tried a couple other 3d games and they didn't have any problems with these drivers.  I have a GeForce 256 SDR (3d Prophet).

I get psychedelic colours after alt-tabbing with 21.81 detonators, however the colours last a split second and are gone

I am using the new drivers and DirectX 8.1 on a Geforece2 mx 400 card and it  nearly doubled my frame rate.  One thing I have found that if you defrag just before entering the game it helps drastically on the frame rate with or without the new drivers.  The more fragmented your drive the slower the game plays and the more disconnects you get.
