Title: Australia's Super Bowl?
Post by: trax1 on August 16, 2008, 09:20:06 PM
Was just watching the Olympics and they are running the men's 1500M swim, the announcers said that this race is Australia's "Super Bowl" of sports, and that Australia is practically shut down right now because everyone is watching this to see the guy from there country will win the Gold for the third time in a row, can this be right?

Can any of you guys on here from Australia confirm this, or were they just over exaggerating?

Hardly - it will be no different from Phelp's races in the US: lot's of people will watch and then go back to doing whatever they normally do. It might get one of the highest audiences for the year but it's not something people make a huge event out of.

What he said....the finals and grandfinals in September/October are more closely followed and popular
