Between the elimination of HTH, and the current settings in the open arenas, it is impractical to arrange private events for small groups. There are plenty of instances where groups of players would like to get together in an environment where they are not subject to griefing. These instances do not always rise to the level of trying to vie for an SEA time slot that does not conflict with its normal uses, and still align with a time that both a CM and attendees can make.
One versatile solution would be some sort of player initiated duel mode. The Air Warrior example comes to mind. In that example, when two players entered duel mode and spawned, they were effectively in a parallel virtual reality. They could not see or interact with others in the arena beyond text, nor could the rest of the arena see or interact with them. They were immune to griefing. Furthermore if several players entered duel mode with one individual, all those players could see and engage each other. I know this instance had been frequently used in AW for tournaments, and private koths. Understandably, the AH game architecture may not be conducive to doing something exactly like the AW example, but surely there is some way to enable players to initiate an instance that will exclude unwanted interference in at least the dueling arena?
Another option that comes to mind is enabling a form of HTH with a higher roster cap that would be available to paying subscribers.

:aok Good for Tank Club issues.

:) On the plus side though, if players had better options in this regard, there would be less complaints to HTC about griefers in the DA.

its a good idea.
Some sort of private room where practices or small events can take place would be a start. Even crappy FA had this option :t.

Yes! :aok

Murdr
Thanx for the heads up. Yup, this is a brillant solution, if implementable. This game fosters enough variability in gameplay, and is popular enough, that something like this is a must have. Further, coupled with the growing unfortunate tendencies towards griefing, it's becoming almost imperative.
I hope HiTech likes the idea and it can be done in the not too distant feature. I can't see how this wouldn't be a big win for everyone. Uh..., except for the griefers. :aok
-
I had forgotten about that capability in AW. Great idea.

Excellent idea Murdr. :aok

*sighs*
I just had to disagree with the smart one... :noid
Oh well, it's certainly a good idea, got my support
3! thumbs up (theres bound to be someone with 3...) :aok :aok :aok
I'll get away from Tachyon!! :lol

Please implement it Dale. :aok

Sounds good to me.

Looks like something HTC ought to consider.. I don't see any downsides to this other than the expense in coading effort.
-
I like the idea because it doesn't require any "special" persons to be involved; any "regular" guy can implement it. If it's player initiated, there's not any coordination with the "who's in charge of what" things... or "so&so has priviliges" in "one place or another." Not that y'all "special" folks aren't appreciated... but you just shouldn't have to be around for every single thing.
Frankly, if a couple of other regular-guy-dweeblets & I want to get together uninterrupted to fail miserably at shooting one another down... while we auger repeatedly... in an uninterrupted setting... I'm all for it.
-
Certainly one of the two (H2H for paying customers or launching a private duel mode with player(s) X.) should be added.
Definitely needed. :aok
-
yea but paying only bhecuase then htc investment wont be lost but i give it 4 thumbs up :aok :aok :aok :aok {some1 somewere will have 4 thumbs }

Most thumbs up so far.
I miss not being able to create the old private 8 way rooms for private squad training etc.

Murdr, this is a great idea!
We definitely need a way of having private events, I think the duel mode would be a great feature for the game, but I wouldn't disdain private rooms for 8/16 players.

Where have you been Gian? Abandoning your post in time of squeaker season is worthy of 1 years listening to Zoozoo. :D

That is cruel and unusual punishment Denholm !!

That is nowhere near unusual. (5,000th post. :D)

Too cruel!!!!!
I've been around, Den, just not posting too much on public forums. ;)

Well sometimes they have to coad something...for a change.
Bring in the instanced AH !!!!

But... You abandoned me! :(
I was all alone, in the field, surrounded by the squeaks emerging from the forests around me. :uhoh

Seems like ideas that nobody objects to fade to the archive fairly quickly. Of course there is always the wildcard "klown" factor that can come into play ;)

Well, nobody has to bash anyone about searching if its a legible request that is rarely seen. :D

that is the worst attempt at imitating a squeaker post I've seen :lol :rock

Sorry murdr but that one just don't fly. That dog don't hunt.
:)

Looks like he failed at failing. :huh

WB had (still has, AFAIK) a "private arena" set up for the S3 events, which required a password for entry. Might something like this fit your bill, Murdr?

Anything like that :) That was somewhat what I had in mind with the suggestion of a revised HTH option for subscribers. I threw out a couple of examples, but something giving players any option in this regard would provide a format for this to take place, rather than players trying to use existing arenas, and on occasion taxing HTC with a bunch of complaints when ignoramuses come along to disrupt these events.
-
Sure would love something like this.
-
Any news on this idea, I think it would be great. :aok :aok
-
Great Idea! :aok
-
I am in support of this change.
I can not see any bad in this idea.
The ability to conduct purly defined dualing/missions etc is a necessary component of game play in AH2.
