Title: Something conducive to private events.
Post by: Murdr on August 18, 2008, 12:21:24 AM
Between the elimination of HTH, and the current settings in the open arenas, it is impractical to arrange private events for small groups.  There are plenty of instances where groups of players would like to get together in an environment where they are not subject to griefing.  These instances do not always rise to the level of trying to vie for an SEA time slot that does not conflict with its normal uses, and still align with a time that both a CM and attendees can make.

One versatile solution would be some sort of player initiated duel mode.  The Air Warrior example comes to mind.  In that example, when two players entered duel mode and spawned,  they were effectively in a parallel virtual reality.  They could not see or interact with others in the arena beyond text, nor could the rest of the arena see or interact with them.  They were immune to griefing.  Furthermore if several players entered duel mode with one individual, all those players could see and engage each other.  I know this instance had been frequently used in AW for tournaments, and private koths.  Understandably, the AH game architecture may not be conducive to doing something exactly like the AW example, but surely there is some way to enable players to initiate an instance that will exclude unwanted interference in at least the dueling arena?

Another option that comes to mind is enabling a form of HTH with a higher roster cap that would be available to paying subscribers.

:) On the plus side though, if players had better options in this regard, there would be less complaints to HTC about griefers in the DA.

its a good idea.

Some sort of private room where practices or small events can take place would be a start.  Even crappy FA had this option   :t.

Murdr

Thanx for the heads up.  Yup, this is a brillant solution, if implementable.  This game fosters enough variability in gameplay, and is popular enough, that something like this is a must have.  Further, coupled with the growing unfortunate tendencies towards griefing, it's becoming almost imperative.

I hope HiTech likes the idea and it can be done in the not too distant feature.  I can't see how this wouldn't be a big win for everyone.  Uh..., except for the griefers.   :aok

Looks like something HTC ought to consider.. I don't see any downsides to this other than the expense in coading effort.

I like the idea because it doesn't require any "special" persons to be involved; any "regular" guy can implement it.  If it's player initiated, there's not any coordination with the "who's in charge of what" things... or "so&so has priviliges" in "one place or another."  Not that y'all "special" folks aren't appreciated... but you just shouldn't have to be around for every single thing.

Frankly, if a couple of other regular-guy-dweeblets & I want to get together uninterrupted to fail miserably at shooting one another down... while we auger repeatedly... in an uninterrupted setting... I'm all for it.

Certainly one of the two (H2H for paying customers or launching a private duel mode with player(s) X.) should be added.

Definitely needed. :aok

Murdr, this is a great idea!

We definitely need a way of having private events, I think the duel mode would be a great feature for the game, but I wouldn't disdain private rooms for 8/16 players.

WB had (still has, AFAIK) a "private arena" set up for the S3 events, which required a password for entry.  Might something like this fit your bill, Murdr?

Anything like that :)  That was somewhat what I had in mind with the suggestion of a revised HTH option for subscribers.  I threw out a couple of examples, but something giving players any option in this regard would provide a format for this to take place, rather than players trying to use existing arenas, and on occasion taxing HTC with a bunch of complaints when ignoramuses come along to disrupt these events.

I am in support of this change.

I can not see any bad in this idea.

The ability to conduct purly defined dualing/missions etc is a necessary component of game play in AH2.
