And I sir, AM that bonehead. :o :o :o
I was trying to get the Annual Aces High Game off my portfilio, and "*click** it's gone.
I made the mistake and I apologize for not being more careful.
I WILL create another Long Term Stock Market Game (to the end of the year) and post all the joining info on this thread. Same rules as the other one. If folks who didn't join before want to when I creat the new one, fine. We have a cool $1/2 Million to play with in the long-term game, not just $100,000K.
Again, my bad.

New game is as follows. It might be case sensitive:
Game ID: AcesHighLong
PW: boogers
$500,000 and the rest of the year to expand your fortune!
Good luck and sorry for the inconvienience.
Your resident bonehead...

I can't anything until the game starts again tomorrow. We can't even put in orders yet.
OTOH: I feel horrible about the mishap. I was only a little over a grand down and had already begun to do better when i messed up. Since we're gonna continue this thread to liason on AH, feel free to tack that much on to your boastings at the end. It's only fair. I tried to bring it back but once it's gone it's gone. That goes for the other 2 players--it was just the 4 of us.
I hadn't even looked at how others had done and hadn't made a trade in over a week.
Does anyone know how I can get that old Annual game off my portfolio list? That's what I was trying to do in the firstplace.
Never drink & admin!
Maybe more folks will join this new one. I did a suxxorzz job at advertizing the old one.

EDIT: I just got this email:
Hello players of the Aces High Long Term Game,
The game will start on the next trading day 8/19/2008 12:00:00 AM. If you would like to get a head start you can make market open trades to start as soon as your game starts.
Come play the game: http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/StartViewGame.aspx?id=AcesHighLong

If you folks aren't in the Long Term Aces High Stock Market Game, you MAY be kissing hundreds of thousands of dollars good-bye.
Waffle has earned more than $166.000++ (he missed out on an additional $100K when I messed up and accidently deleted the game, so he gets that credit on TOP of the numbers you see).
You just might learn something about picking stocks. He's garnered $260K ++ in less than a month! :salute
That is almost twice what I paid for the last house I bought. :aok
Want to learn about stocks? Maybe make money in the RL??
Sign up. It's free.
Ya might actually learn something.

Welcome guys!
Sorry for not trading lately, but the hurricane has me running--everybody is freaking out, and I am helping with H&W traffic on ham radio for the people who have lost cell phone ability.
Hop in...there's plenty of room...you get $500,000.00 for starters and it goes until around Christmas.
Good luck!

Don't have a clue what I'm doing. Should be interesting....

marketwatch.com is by far the best you can do (considering the 20 minute delay on vse.marketwatch.com).
You can look at the 1 day, 5 day, 30 day, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year charts. It helps to watch the news and Fox's Markets Channel too. The guys on msnbc's stocks channel tend to gamble too much IMHO.
When oil drops, natural gas stocks (like Chesapeke) tend to rise. When energy stock tanks, financials tend to rise and vice versa.
What suxxxor for us is that a stock can go from a price you want to sell at a profit on our virtual stock exchange can already be tanking (at a loss) by the time your 20 minutes later sale goes through.
See what waffle is doing for awhile. The guy is raking it in bigtime.
New players interested in playing are encouraged to scroll up for the details and join us. There is no cost and sheesh....ya just might learn something.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled hurricane.

Ok, not sure how to word this and make sense :o If I want to buy a stock and say today it is at 10 dollars and I think the market will drop tomorrow to say 8 dollars, how do I enter that? Its kinda like I want the software to make the bid for me when it reaches a certain point whether it be today or tomorrow or next week. And what type of order is this called.
On the other hand, It looks like a guy can sell a stock if it is high when you dont even own it and then at a later date buy it to replace it? And what is that called.
And I know nothing about this margin stuff.

That is a "Good till cancelled" term order with a "Limit" pricing type.
The "Good till cancelled" causes the order to remain in effect untill you cancel it or it is complete. A Day order is only good for the day it was placed.
The limit causes the order to only be executed when the prices gets to the limit you entered.
In your example you would place a "Good till cancelled" order with a limit of $8.00. If the prices falls from $10.00 to $8.00 the order will be executed no matter how many days it takes to get down to $8.00.

stage1 is cheating!!! I understand that the market goes up and down but without new news on the company your interested in how do you know when to buy/sell. Or is stocks a best guess thing. I am trading in companies I know...have no idea how to research for up and coming stocks.

My magnificent strategy, since I dont know what I'm doing :O was to look up yahoo finance and click on the biggest percent winners and loosers at the time. I looked at the loosers and kind of picked amongst those I felt :pray" comfortable" :pray with. So in a nutshell my portfolio is comprised of loosing stock at the time of purchase.
-
It's a real rollercoaster.
Waffle lost $6000,000.00 but is making a slow comeback.
Stage comes in and makes $100,000.00 off the same stock Waffle took it in the shorts on...go figure.
BTW: The folks who signed up 3 weeks ago and havent made a trade yet...we'll give you another calendar week to start trading before you get deleted. You won't be allowed to win by not playing.
Good Luck!

I had the day off work so I did some in and out trades. Thursday and Friday wee hard days to loose money whatever ya did. I know someone who has a large amount of money invested in one company and he told me he can manipulate the stock prices by buying and selling this one company. Is that true...can that be done. He said with his buying power if he moves the stock prices 6-10 cents it is worth it to him.
-
Folks who signed up for the Long Term game, but have never made a trade--your week (plus a couple of days) is up.
Those four folks who have never made a trade are going-----going----gone.
THIS is without a doubt the most INSANE time to be playing this game.
The stock market is going into a gigantic HOLE for financials...everyone else is selling, selling, selling cheap.
NOW is a great time to buy low to sell high later.
Just be EXTREMELY careful of what you buy!
Good luck!

After watching things a few weeks and so forth, and having always heard not to have all your eggs in one basket, it looks to be true.
:O LOL Waffle gonna have to file virtual bankruptcy before long :O Course we may all be there in another week too.
-
Buy low while you can during a bear market, not a depression. I'm just afraid of which we're in.
-
Hahahahahahahahaha I joined and im already in 3rd place, mainly cause I joined after the crash, sorry boys,
Id also like to give a nice shout out to waffle....in last place...with only $41k... :salute

Well...it's almost as real as you can get after the market put a moritorium on selling short.
Don't forget Waffle also had about $125,000 in his account when I accidently deleted the first part of the game...so add that on to his total.
It's wierd, Waffle was up almost 1/2 Million bucks but had all his eggs in one basket with Sirius. Stage1 made quite a bit too. Both rode that big pig almost into a 1/2 Million dollar loss.
I'm waiting for the market to bottom out (should be Friday) then I'll go hunting for deals.
If you use marketwatch.com it's easy to put up about 40 different stocks--diversify--put up some financials, some pharmicuticals, some energy, some tech, and some consumer stocks...put up 8 to 10 of each kind and have some high-end and some low end. After you do that, shortly after the markets open every morning (give 'em about an hour or so) and you have a decent barometer of what the market's feel is that day.
Sometimes the Fed will make an announcement that changes the direction that day, or if yet another bank fails...you will see which way it's going.
We have 3 full months to go Mr. Waffle. You just might win yet. I'm not sure if not diversifying might be really hurting you.
I took it in the shorts early in the game with Fannie & Freddie. I also did some Lehman Brothers back then--but cut my losses with a stop-loss of a few grand. Lehmann was $55 a share back then...it's .21 cents a share now and bankrupt.
Pharmicuticals are doing better, and some of the stronger banks are doing better.
It's still a mess in the mortgage market.
This might be a fun "game" right now, but the reality is we're staring into the eyes of a depression--I hope the depression blinks first.

I was up 30k and was happy....then I made some stupid buys. Why on earth did I buy Ford...geez!
I was telling some near retirees at a family gathering around labor day that by christmas we'll either be in a depression or much larger mess then we are now. I don't like the bail-out plan but I think it's our only hope right now.
-
Ok here is probably a stupid question but not sure where to start. I hear of daytrading and such where you watch stocks and in a matter of minutes literally you can buy and sell and either make or lose. This winter I will have some time to watch stocks in the daytime as we farm and cant farm too much here in the wintertime.
I checked with scottrade, where I have an account, and they seem to want me to buy something or sell something, and wait like 3 days for the settlement, or they told me I would get some kind of "mark" checked on my account. If any of y'alls daytrade or at least want to buy today and sell tomorrow, what broker(s) or investment vehicles do you use?
I was thinking of usint the virtual stock exchange and "practice" a while when the time comes.
-
LOL...my stock gained me 1280 yesterday. It lost me 1280 today. This is a crazy time.

Any place that wants to tell you how you make your trades and how long to hold them is not looking out for your best interest.
Making money in the market means being able to buy ans sell when YOU think it's most advantageous to YOU.
They can get lost then.

Got another question or so here... I've been watching a company and the price dropped to where it looks attractive to me. Now, it is around 60 to 70 cents and today the bid price is lower than actual stock price and the ask price is like 20 cents above the actual price. Why is there such a price disparity on this, and this is not the only one, just decided to try and find out whats what. And also, who gets the profit so to speak if actual price is 70 cents and ask price is say 90 cents?

^ ^ ^ ^ anybody maybe have an answer?
