Fubuki class destroyer!!!
Man o man, this would be a sure cure for those arrogant CV's that park
in the blind spot between the SB's....
Spawn and operate just like a PT....
-
Ouch. Three 5in guns, loads of torps, and a speed capable of 37 knots.
I'm not sure if it would be wise to allow one of those to be piloted like a PT boat.
I think the PT boat is good enough, but too bad it is made of paper and a drunken sailor with a bolt action rifle can sink it from 1000 yrds.
-
Perhaps when we get subs?
DANG! I can't believe I killed my own kitten! :cry

So true. Truth is, that plywood hull would deteriorate rapidly and get covered with barnacles in the field so they seldom were as fast as promised. Throw in 3000 gallons of aviation gas and the things were freakin' bombs. :uhoh
-
Please educate me, why were PT boats carrying aviation fuel? Don't believe their engines ran on the stuff.

Supecharged Packard V-12 (100 octane gasoline)

Well, that's amusing.
Although my grandfather once drove those P.T. Boats in WWII, I never had much interest in them.

Like I said. Big imminent fiery explosion. :uhoh Frankly I think you're kittens are safer than PT crews were.

I think engines depended on manufacturer.. I think 3????
Also when they were made, powerplants changed over time....
My info says, 3 caddy v12's, no stuffers....
If PT spawn is too close to CV, auto 5inch kills ya before you can start the boat....
Nevermind getting up to steerage speed, and aim torps....
They are just too fragile for daylite use. Night would give them cover to get closer
to target.... Go figure, no darkness!!!
Fubuki's are cool lookin, heavily armed 6x5inch, reloadable long lance torps...
Also could provide great AA cover for LVTs, getting straffed in water...
NO MORE FREEBEES!!!!
I think DD sorties with your buddies (against defending DD's) would be a blast... And they could add diff
possible scenarios to the game.... Worth thinking about!!!
LOL, all those tactical minded ppl out there are thinkin, "Hmmmmm, interesting"!!!!
Me Too!!!

Night will only provide a little bit of cover from manned-ack, not auto-ack.
-
True, auto ack has superman x-ray vis....
-
you don't want 20 boats of that kind spawn out of nowhere when cv is down.
heavy perk stuff
-
Thats the point, A squad of DD's would be like a pack of ravenous wolves...
Just 5 of them, charging, line abreast, zigzaging and bangin away w 5in....
Then in unison, they make a 90deg turn to port, and loose 20 longlance
torps at the fleet.... Make smoke, continue their turn behind smokescreen,
reload torps, pop out of the smoke, and fire 20 more....
After that, the order is ATTACK AT WILL.....
By then, Hopefully enemy DD's would be spawning too... Oh yeah!!!!
-
Now you have my mouth watering. Too bad getting people to actually work together is such a pain.

Yep, three engines per boat. PT's were powered by 3M-2500's, 4M-2500's, and 5M-2500's. All built by Packard. And I believe they all used superchargers.
