Title: New terrain - I like it!
Post by: LLv34_Camouflage on March 01, 2001, 07:42:00 PM
After a few hours of fighting in the new terrain, I really have to say it made a big difference to the gameplay!!

To be honest, the hogC/n1k-fest was getting terribly horrible in the "pac" terrain. But g
guess what?  I've only seen a single hog in the new MA! One or two nikis as well, but thats ok... I've mostly ran into P51s, P47s and Spits.  The fights are quite high as well.  Good - more of a european feeling to the fighting.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Ground battles are back again.  Even though there are no V-fields, the spawn points from the airfields are close to the targets, which leads into large tank operations.  Good!!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I like the new terrain. A lot!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Like I said in another post, I dont like the way this terrain evens everything out.  I feel like Im stuck in a cubicle.

I like more believable terrains.  This terrain is a mere functional device.  It has no imagination as far as terrain goes.

I here it looks a helluva lot like a AW terrain.  AW terrains are not why I fly AH.

agreed yeager but ill give it a chance first.

first impressions ive had are not good but maybe because knits getting gangbanged and all i seemed to be getting was bounced..guess everyone knows that feeling but this map seems to really swing against the receiver of a 2 country attack.
Today the knits defended in numbers(40?) but it felt like we were getting pounded more so than usual, hope its not a map trend  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I really like that the ground action has returned.  Fields are a little more spread, it seems, giving a little more breathing space.  No need to worry about fleet uber ack anymore too.  Of course, this only lasts a month, then it's back to the *sigh* ocean. Since many people actually enjoy the ocean terrain, it's only fair that the two be flipped on a regular basis.  The southwestern part of the present terrain actually reminds me of the steppes  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

it would be possable though not easy to make a terrain where the sides are different but equal, I wish they would let nuttz or some of the other TE gurus do a map for the MA.

It the beta terrain.......

The Volcan blew and filled with water and mountain shifted a bit.

This is great for valley fights like the beta terrian. Ive only seen a few chog and N1s but mostly 109s, p51, p38s , Spits..

Had a blast tonight..

After a few days im sure youll like it.

Dog out......

I've seen more 109s in the first day of this tour than I saw all last tour.  I've been shot down by P-47s, a Tiffie and a La-5.

I saw an entire country attacking a base.. using virtually every aircraft in the inventory.

The fights have been low and high.  The terrain, while not to mountainous, is quite un-even down low.  You can really use it or you can leave it.

The only thing it has against it is that it is not very pretty.  But it has so much else going for it.

BTW.. how about a Fighter Vs Fighter chart for the first day of this tour:

Who's the G-2 idiot?  I'm 10-3 in it.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I wouldn't look too much into the stats of the first day. I wonder how many people ditched/bailed/died because they got lost in the new terrain?

Had one of my worst nights last night.

1 assist and 5 deaths in the damn thing. Last tour when I really started flying it I went 17 - 27 in it. Until I start getting uber in it the stats will be waayyyy off.

I haven’t seen much of it yet, but I like the new map.

It seems to me that the way things are laid out now may put an end to the “to furball or not to furball” debate.  The avenues of approach have been limited to certain sectors therefore causing the furball’s to move to, so called, “strategic” airfields.  So, for the strategic player who is upset at the furballer for not helping in ground pounding, this map will narrow the playing field.  The action should be quicker and involve larger numbers.  This of course is just a theory; I guess we will all know soon enough.

It also appears though, <cough> <clear throat>, that it will be easier for a two country gang bang.  Just happen to notice the few minutes I was on yesterday…  What the hell have the Knights done to you Bish’s and Rookies anyway?  Pick on someone your own size!  Oh, wait.  I’m starting to learn, it takes a couple of you all to equal one Knight doesn’t it!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Terrain layout and closer vehicle spawn points are an improvement IMO, but it's just so damn plain and boring looking...geography is kinda flat, same plain ol' terrain skins.  There's just too much talent out there making terrains for free to justify uninspired terrains.  I know it aint as simple as just getting a terrain from a customer, but hey, it outa be  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hey, is it fun to fly in is all I worry about. I am not going to frame it and hang it on my wall or anything.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I like it (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The color is much more ralistic from the air than in past terrains. I used to believe HTC had a contract with Chemlawn...too green.

The gangbang issue doesn't bother me until the Bishops start getting Gangbanged (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I for one really like the new map.  It doesn't seem to hit my fps bad and at least last night it created some very nice fights, both hi and lo.

Plus I like to tank a pnzr out alot of Knits launched a massive Pnzr attack on 23 yesterday!  Was fun even though the defending pnzr got over ran before I got a hit on him..hehe

The new map has changed the feel of AH online.  It is now essentially a two "superpower" war with a small nieghboring country.  Think of Poland between Germany and Russia.

For fighters, speed and climb are more important than firepower than in the past.  Lots more Mustangs and 109's about.  High altitude flying is more prevelant.

Much of the challenge to bomber flying is gone as it is much easier to avoid defensive fighters and anti-aircraft fire (if your side is numbers advantaged).  It remains just as easy for a single airplane to render a base unusable with the extreme bombing precision available.

Gone is the ability to (nearly) always have the option to fly from a carrier from all three countries.

The new arena is more condusive to large armored vehicle attacks than actual ground vehicle battles.  Travel times from a spawn point to nme base are down to a few minutes for the faster vehicles.

Two countries with a large advantage in numbers can find endless targets (and related points/perk points) by attacking a purely defensive country fighting on two fronts.  Once the reset is forced, there is a whole new set of targets to blow through to force another reset.  If Day 2 of tour 14 is any indication, this can happen at least once a day.  Lesse 30 days times 20 reset perk points/day = no sense in flying for a country that is in continous retreat.

It seems that this new terrain, coupled with the regular moves of a few squads, has highlighted problems we might not have seen if numbers were more equal between the three countries.
