Title: Operation Bodenplatte
Post by: pervert on August 19, 2008, 07:15:58 PM
This looks like it would be pretty fun for a scenario http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bIpVYOaC9Q I know something like this has been
done before but apparently it wasnt really accurate as regards aircraft involved. ;)

I think it would be hard to make this one into a scenario.

I think it would be hard to make this one into a scenario.

We have had FSO's, Snapshots, and Sunday Night Scramble's based or even loosely based on Bodenplatte. With a fairly complete plane set.

We tried and tried to resurrect Pearl Harbor in Aces High to no avail, whats the difference here?

Both Pearl and Bodenplatte, it is true, would not be very fun if played in a historically accurate way.

To make a Pearl scenario or a Bodenplatte scenario, we then get into a "what if" scenario.

But there is a limited number of "what if" scenarios we should run, and Pearl is already fleshed out.  Also, Pearl has more varied stuff to play around with (more types of planes, more-varied terrain, ships, varied types of targets with varied ships and ground targets, etc.), and so I think it would have more room for different strategies.

Pearl is stalled on terrain, though, so the above difficulties are perhaps moot.

Actually not completely true with Bodenplatte.  It was part of the ongoing winter airwar that was part of the Battle of the Bulge and aftermath  December-January 44-45

Consider it a part of a larger scenario that follows the DGS scenerio time frame.  Bodenplatte as a possible part of a larger event can be done if it's written up the right way....er....wait.  I do believe someone has written it up already.....Now if we could only make it happen :)

Throw in lousy weather, armor, bridges, tac air and all kinds of fun stuff and it could be a real good time :noid

Not really, allies defend againest huge axis noe mission while drunk/hungover happens every night  :lol :lol Seriously thou with realistic settings could turn into a very interesting fight and add a huge dollop of uncertainty navigation by landmark etc realistic fuel burn, killshooter off, enemy icons off and organize into respective squads for attack/defensive.

Bodenplatte is not a lopsided scenario at all.  When we run it in AH the Luftwaffe attacking force is not comprised of children with a few weeks of flying time under their belts, and German AAA gunners are not shooting down their own side's aircraft.

And it's allready part of a nicely written up scenario design that wouldn't take that long to get rolling if need be :)

I'm actually reading about this at the moment!

I started on this book months ago but had to put it aside since I wasn't in the reading "zone" but I'm into it again now.
I thought it would make for an interesting scenario then too.

Try "To Win the Winter Sky" by Danny Parker.  It covers roughly Late November through January 1944-45.  What a brawl it was for those tac air guys on both sides during the Battle of the Bulge time frame.

Someone gather 120 people to fly allies, of which 100 will sit in planes parked in rows for 3 or 4 frames and then I will be happy to write up Bodenplatte as a full fledge scenario.  :lol
