Title: First day of school
Post by: Elfie on August 20, 2008, 10:23:56 AM
My youngest is having her first day of kindergarten today. We walked her to school and unlike her older sister, had no apprehension at all about leaving us to go inside.

Only 13 more years till I get some peace and quiet around here.  :D

Ours go on Monday - first day.. the oldest going into 2nd grade, the youngest going into first grade... the oldest is constantly telling her all about how much homework she will now have...the pensive frowns are priceless....  :lol

Funny you should say that - same here...
The girls were in day camp this summer..the wife picks them up after a party day and overhears a camper telling her mom about getting an award..the wife asks the kids did they give out awards today?
The youngest says: " yeah mom, I got the Talksalot Award" " Frowning..."What does that mean"?.... Wife laffed all the way home....

My youngest as well! On more than one occassion I've considered getting him a hand held tape recorder for our car outings.  From the instant we get into the car that kid is a total motor-mouth.  I barely have time to answer one question before the next (totally unrelated) question is coming out of his mouth.  Frankly, I don't know many of the answers to what he's asking.  A tape recorder would at least allow me to go back & look the stuff up to answer him properly.

In 13 years she can live on her own!  She can visit....but when she is not visiting I will get some peace and quiet.  :D

Mine is a motor mouth from the instant she wakes up to the time she goes to sleep. I usually hear her talking to her stuffed animals until she falls asleep.

I can tell her to shut up for just 5 minutes......never makes it 30 seconds......has it been 5 minutes yet dad?   :rofl

LOL... fat chance. My Daughter is now 24, married and within days (hours?) of poppin out my first granddaughter.

You'll discover when there are those odd moments of 'peace and quiet' that your sub-consciously cringing, the little voice in you brain is hollering 'IT's TOO DAMN QUIET... WHAT IN HELL IS SHE DOING NOW??" and you just can't really relax, cause if yah do, that's when she'll blind-side yah with 'Can I stay over at my friends house, daddy?'

*sigh*

As a grandfather, I hope to take the battle to my kid... lotsa noisy toys, and of course, the well timed 'Pull my Finger'.

:D

I already am a grandfather. My son is almost 26 now and they have their third one on the way. They were just here a couple weeks ago....and yes....I did use the *Pull my finger* routine.  :rock

Mine had their first day of school today. One in high school, one in charter school, one in elementary school.  The elementary school didn't make it. He stayed home with me today... long story for another thread on another day.

Oh man, you're looking at a wealth of opportunity. Its time to have a boatload of fun in "grandpa revenge mode" :)

"Pull my finger" pales to getting the agitated phone call from your daughter after your granddaughter returns home from spending her summer with grandma and grandpa at age 11....and daughter finds out that you taught said 11 year old granddaughter to drive your car and your boat  :t

And, you then have the opportunity to say "But, dear, don't you remember the time you swiped your mom's pickup keys at age 12 and went to the beach with your sister and the babysitter?"

~shocked silence~

"Uhhh, you knew about that?"

LMFAO  :D
