I was wondering if the kinetic energy is modeled in AH along with the explosive power. It would seem to me that even if a 1000 lb bomb were to hit a GV or strat before it armed that it could still be carrying a lot of energy and still be capable of causing damage.
-
I believe it is. It's certainly factored into it's flight path.
-
Kinetic energy is only taken into account when attacking air targets. Bombs that don't explode on the ground do no damage vs. structures at all (same as droptanks). However a bomb that hits a plane in midair will smash it.
To further elaborate on that matter, the actual kinetic energy of gun projectiles is only factored in vs air targets too. All damage vs ground structures is based on a fixed value, for example a .303 Browning round will always inflict the same damage on a structure (= an equivalent of 0.3125 lbs of bombs), regardless of range/velocity.
-
Damage to objects is constant regardless of velocity. Damage to player craft is a different matter.

just out of curiousity, is there a reasone drop tanks do no harm?
-
because they don't... how would it look if a base is porked and some one felt like dropping a DT into a fire... :O
-
Awesome? :t

Lol nice one.

I believe drop tanks should be able to cause some damage. DTs if fuel is still in them should cause explosion and at min. take a flak turret.
yes this theroy is used in ground targets as well. you can take and kill a panzer with a 250 pound bomb. but you have to have the energy to do it as well.

ahhhhhh!!!!1it is math that is to much for me!!!!!!!!!!!
