Title: Tracers .Vs No Tracers
Post by: RoGenT on August 22, 2008, 03:58:35 PM
Couple of guys on my squad channel were talking about the damage model; Supposely if you turn tracers off, the damage/projectilry (horrible speller, sorry) has higher precent than if you had tracers on.

Is this true or no?

I think that's false. I haven't actaully tested it though so I wouldn't know the truth. a .50 cal is a .50 cal no matter what you do. In Real life though the only thing that I know tracers have an effect on is they fly though the air differently than a non-tracer.

I'm no expert on this though.

It probably has to do with the fact that when you first turn tracers off your hit percentage goes to crap because you don't have the tracers there to help you lead the rounds to the target.  I've played both ways and once i got used to having the tracers off my percentage actually went up a bit from where it had been with tracers on.

Tracers are filled with magnesium (correct me if I'm wrong), that way, when they get heated up, they burn. Now I'm not sure if this is implemented into the game, but Mythbusters did a episode where they tested if a bullet can ignite a fuel tank, normal bullets didn't, only tracers. Then again, I learned not trust everything on TV.

In this game it is false.

I thought it was phosphorous in WWII? I dont think it makes a difference in the game. I turn tracers off so they dont see it coming until their wing/tail/head is off.

something i was curious, in real life it was proven that at distances past a certin point tracer rounds dropped quite abit compared to non-coated ones, in the game are the different ballistics taken into account?

This is not modeled in the game ... all bullets (tracer or not) fly with the same trajectory for their caliber ... the reason, I am assuming is that it's not worth the effort to coad it.

I find all gtuns have same strength with or without tracers. I don't normally shoot with tracers, so maybe its just better shot placement wen i do have tracers, but its about the same w/ or w/o tracers.
