Sluggish there are stupid and hypocritical people in all walks of life. Every race, every job, every country, and probably every planet in the known Galaxy that harbors semi-Intelligent life.

Whos rationalizing anything? Actually I think its kinda funny too.
But the real interesting thing is that I actually had to tell you this in the first place.

I tell ya, sometimes even people who seem to be good cops can have a human moment, let down their guard, allow their will power to go offline and do dumb things. I think the call if hilarious. The situation is not. He got what he deserved; fired. He paid his price.
I would be careful not to paint such a large group of people with such a broad brush. Especially when members of such group, who believe in the law and their duty to uphold it with everything they have, life or death, are lurking just nearby your broad, grammatically incorrect and obviously hatred fed statements.

after that experience he would have been much better equipped to deal with an encounter with a marijuana "addict", I.E. instead of just arresting the guy, first convince him that he is in communist china and that his dead grandmother is crawling up his leg with a knife in her teeth.

Im going to tell everyone this, even tho I probably shouldnt, or shouldnt even bother.
In the last few weeks Ive lost two good friends, guys I personaly worked with on this job, which probably brings the count up to at least a dozen Ive personaly known, and probably more. Three of them killed LOD from my academy class alone. The first was killed about a month ago. He was working a car alone, was breaking up a disturbance on a bus, and somehow some crazy woman got his gun from him and shot him point blank in the face. The 2nd one was last week. A guy I worked with was a dropping a girl off from a date when they got car jacked. He told the BGs he was the Police at which time the BGs shot them both in the head and neck, killing her instantly. He somehow was able to give an account and descriptions but he ended up brain dead and they pulled him off the next morning.
So after a few lucky years it looks like were going back to the 2 to 7 yearly average we usually have. In my Dept. alone.
I aint complaining, or looking for sympathy. I chose this life. But when you read some of my responses in some of these stupid cop threads, to some of these screwball posts, maybe now you know the reason why. Not this thread but some of the other ones, and many in my years on the Internet.
You see some of these comments insult the memory of friends Ive lost, or brothers & sisters in other Dept.'s, who were doing this job to serve and protect their fellow citizens. And I aint going to stand for it, nor should anyone else here whos real police.

Rich, I don't think anyone was trying to dishonor the memory of your friend, or any of the other cops who have given their life in the line of their service. We've even got cops (or retired cops) as posters on this BBS.
Regardless of the occupation, there's bound to be a knucklehead or two out there. This is just an example of that... and I think everyone knows that they're not the standard... which is why this guy on the 911 call stands out.

My favorite police experience was many a moon ago in a small middle of nowhere Georgia town. Long story short they had a dog who signaled on my car at the interstate exit. During the aggressive search of my vehicle a young police officer gave me the best speech of his life. Over and over he said "just don't understand why you kids mess with such dangerous stuff!" and "You know how many people marijuana kills!" etc. etc. It was very difficult to keep a straight face on during this.
When they couldn't find anything after an hour of searching ( ;) :D ;) ), I made my first request for release if they weren't going to charge me with anything. They refused and after another hour I requested again. I guess they were hoping I'd cave or something but after talking to the young jerk officers superiour for a few minutes I was happily on my way watching the older officer lay into the younger one in my rear view.

I've ony had 1 run in with an officer who was just a PITA right off the bat. Jan 12th 1991, 4 days before I deployed over to Saudi Arabia for GW 1 got pulled doing 68 in a 55 while heading home for the last time before I deployed.
Guy walks up takes my liscense and stuff to look at it, then asks me, "So how many speeding tickets will this be for you son?"
WTF?? I told him, "Sir, I've never gotten a speeding ticket before."
Him, "Really?? Well we'll soon find out if your lying to me or not."
Kinda pissed me off that he said all that. So dispatch calls back that I have a clean record and everything is in order, I explained to him that I was in the Army and was deploying in 4 days for the Gulf, and he still writes me a ticket.
At that point I got pissed and told him I wasn't going to pay it, and I wasn't going to be in the court room when it came up. He responded by telling me if I didn't pay it or show up to court they would put a warrant out for my arrest. I had to smile when I told him they can send an officer over to Saudi to come and get me.
Anyway, I never paid the ticket and when my Mom got a letter in the mail about me missing my court date and all the legal action they were preparing against me, she sent a letter to the judge explaining were I was and what I was doing. The judge sent her a letter back saying all the charges had been dropped. :D
I guess the officer got chewed out by the judge too because 2 weeks after I got home the same officer pulled me over in pretty much the same spot, doing the same speed. He remembered me and let me go with a warning. Was kinda funny though seeing the look on his face when he recognized me. It was that "Oh Crap not this guy" look. :D
But he was the only one that ever gave me an attitude right off the bat which pissed me off because I'm always polite when dealing with police officers. I figure they have to deal with enough a holes every day, so I don't need to be one more for them. Being polite, respectfull, honest, and cooperative has gotten me out of more tickets than I can count. I figure most cops don't want to write people tickets for stupid stuff but when they catch a bunch of crap for just doing their jobs they get a little angry and write away.

I now have a camera in the PT cruiser, just for this reason. Makes for good entertainment. I also love watching the expression on their faces when they ask to search and I quote my 4th amendment rights. Like they've never heard the word NO, before
I have done this for my own safety when loading up after a gig and because I am quite tired of being pulled over at night, simply because of the late hour. I may be exhausted by the end of the night and my driving could leave something to be desired at times, but if me passing the breathalyser isn't enough, or maybe the car load full of DJ equipment doesn't tip them off as to my choice of profession, or my honesty. Maybe, I'm telling the truth and it really could be the reason I'm driving home after the bars are closed.
I just love it when they unload all of my gear and leave me there, alone, to put it back by myself. Especially when it's after a wedding or big event when I carry all of my most expensive equipment. Being stuck alone on the side of the road at 2-3 AM with 1000's of dollars in sound reinforcement equipment strewn about is a blast, let me tell you.
This is why I now bring up my 4th amendment rights. Have probable cause, or get a warrant. Since the hour is usually late, and I am done work, I have all the time in the world.
I'll be here asleep in my car while you are busy WAKING a judge for a warrant. Wonder where that will put him on His Honor's favorite list, once he does not find anything.

Which proves that there are some out there. Nobody is saying all cops are jerks, but some are.
Having a badge does not earn my immediate respect.
Having rank in the military never did either.
Either of the above, while earning my immediate obedience, sadly will not earn my immediate respect. Earn is the word here.

I think he is right that it is an overall disrespectful statement about the police and he is right to point out that it is unfair and inappropriate.
The majority of police officers are good people doing tough and dangerous jobs. Bad cops are the exception.
I think that like many professions, there are probably pockets of bad ones lumped together which to the people in their area may make it seem like all cops are bad... I bet if the only time you ever talk to cops is when they've pulled you over for something it probably doesn't help your impression of them.

a young distant relation by marriage stopped by the house to drop something off, he had just been hired as a cop, someone asked him how he liked being a cop, he replied and i quote, "it's great, when i worked for best buy i had to take crap from the people, now i get to dish it out".
we do not need cops like that.
