the game actually runs better for me at 1600x1200x32bit than it does at 800x600x32bit 1024x768x32bit!

around 5fps higher on the lowest hit, and around 15fps higher in normal flight.

Hercules Geforce256 32mb DDR (nvidia 20.85)
Duron 650mhz
Abit KG7 w/ 256mb PC2100 DDR-RAM
Windows 98 SE

I've noticed the same thing. Seems to run best at 1280 for me.
