Amazing piece of technology, but my god does that thing look like it comes from an SF future horror movie.

Pretty cool.

Wow. That's the most advanced walking robot I've seen.

why are they bothering with walking robots in the first place?

You can't drive up a cliff. If you want to put a packbot armed with a shotgun in a cave entrance, somebody has to carry it up there. If you replicate something like a mountain goat with sensors & servos, then it can hop up there. All it needs then is a frickin' laser beam on its forehead.

The buzzing would certainly drive me insane.
Looks like fun to play with tho.

Notice the packs? You can send these things in to resupply stranded military without endangering more lives (for one thing).

that makes sense...probably be easier to just have something that can fly up there though.

unless, as indy said, its needed up a cliff, then it would be much easier and cheaper to use something wheeled.

It will have quite a few applications' in heavy snow, or swampy terrain, or hilly or mountanous ground.
Then, there' the potential for it to be scaled up for something that will be much larger-perhaps armored, and weapon-carrying. You would be able to 'walk' an IFV or a tank right up to something like-say, a Talliban-mountaintop refuge.

No... it's more economical to make it walk and it does some things flying can't. Like Frode says. Automating a walking chassis is really valuable economicaly, and in terms of engineering, it's in high demand.

That thing is creepily organic looking :uhoh

They should call it a horse...
