What I remember most, was the chaos and uncertainty in everyones lives...

It seems to me that the Democratic party lost its soul in 68, under a VietCong flag, and
by the light of burning cars.... When they showed who they REALLY were!!!!
All of the greatness, of Wilson, FDR, Truman, JFK, and even LBJ, was washed away...
Replaced now, by many of those same Chicago Rioters, who are now democratic activists...

It is especially stupid to be a republican if you don't make over $200,000.00 a year....
And, it's especially stupid to be a democrat if one makes more than $200.000 per year as you will be taxed to give to those who would rather live off of your earnings..
One wants to keep rich people rich(and stupid), one wants to keep poor people poor(and stupid) and give them assistance so they can say "Look! We gave you this much! Vote for us again!!"... Stupid sheeple..... :rofl

How funny I come from a long line of republicans and have no regrets over it . I do also believe we should take care of our citizens and poor and sick . Educate everyone and teach people to do for themselves at the same time , if you wait for the gov to save you , you will not be saved . I also believe the gov. works for us not the other way around and soon America as a whole will tired of this stuff and change it , we always do no matter if its right or wrong . I think most people are a combo of liberal and conservative as far as the country is concerned . after all we are all we have and thats the truth . In any situation of emergency we never ask each other what group we are in , we just help . its just the way it is . government aside .

You just reminded me of something quite amusing, as per the political activities' of the american populace today.
This country actually had more citizens' of a foreign power (illegal mexican immigrants) marching in the streets' of L.A. protesting their rights under our constitution, than any amount of White, native-born americans have about abortion, the second amendment, or presidential elections.

IF you feel things are bought and paid for...then why vote at all? Why feel it's "Wasted" ? I voted for Perot...and never ever felt it was wasted. At the time he seemd to have the best ideas imho. He was running...I liked him...so there ya go.
I didn't join the Republican party because it was GODS party...however it does lean more to my religeous convictions. Democrats have a majority of religeous people as well. In thier party.

I lost an Uncle in vietnam:

It was a stupid war, with a costly outcome that the US should have never been involved with. There comes a point when the military types realize that without war, they're job is just not as glorious. All the money and lives lost in vietnam could have been used to defeat communism by other means. There was absolutely no reason to be on the ground in Vietnam.

Hindsight is always 20/20. When we got into Vietnam the reasons were fairly sound. The major problems started occuring when the White House started directing the war from the situation room, instead of letting the commanders on the ground do what needed to be done.
That's the main problem with most politicians and presidents. They get into office and they have this huge stick called the US Military that they think they can wave around and solve all their problems. Then when they try and use it they find out that once the stick is in motion you can't really stop it until it breaks something. When that happens people die and then the politicians start getting scarred and want to try and control the stick even more, or they realize they're going to look bad for swinging it in the first place.
Somalia is a perfect excample. Clinton wanted to show the world that the US cares and we were going to make sure that the international relief supplies got to the people it was supposed to go to and we were going to hunt down those trying to deny that relief. Everything was going along fine until a blackhawk got shot down. Hundreds of people ended up dead, there was allot of press coverage and it looked bad on the TV. So what happened, Clinton ordered our guys to tuck tail and come home. It wasn't because we couldn't do the mission, it was because of one battle that looked bad on TV and US troops were killed in the process.

Their opinion did not change even when Kennedy gave the blessing and push to start the Green Beret's specifically for non conventional warfare. That conflict was a politicians war start to finish. The military did not start that or lobby for it either. If you want to blame someone for that conflict the innitials are JFK and LBJ.

You ever serve Mark? If so then <S>....However...being in the military and serving this country wasn't ever glamorus. Thats NOT what serving is. Being in WAR doesnt glamorize it either. It makes it LESS glamorous. Killing people isn't the only thing the military is for. It's a mind set....It's a love of country that makes people serve. Wartime or not. It's a hard job at times.
If you think its all about glamour.....See your local recruiter.

Yeah it is- in fairness to LBJ though he inherited Viet Nam, and hated our involvement but felt he had no choice other than stay the course. The war didn't really become unpopular until Tet in 1968- until then most believed in the Domino theory and felt our involvement was necessary.

butter me! When Kennedy died there were ~16k US troops in Vietnam. President...even VP's that inherit the office... are supposed to make the tough decisions. For a guy that hated our involvement he sure as hell did nothing to reduce it. If there was ever a time to back away it was when Kennedy died.
Instead LB mushferbrains J decided to pour in US troops and run the war from the oval office. He and his brainless sidekick Robert Strange McNamara sure were smarter than all them gol darn ole military men, weren't they? Nearly HALF a MILLION troops in-country by the end of 1967.
Sorry, Kennedy may have made a small error but LBJ blew it up into a gargantuan problem. VietNam was LBJ's war all the way. And it would simply be impossible for someone to even deliberately mismanage it to a greater degree than he and Bobby Strange did.
