Ok, I'm a yakker and i looove it, but i never get why that thing can rip apart 7-8 planes b4 reloading....or am i just THAT good in it??? :lol, is that cannon meant to do that???
-
Auto-cannons are meant to destroy aircraft, yes.
-
auto cannon??? whatdya mean?
-
Any automatic weapon that fires a round over 13mm is considered an auto-cannon (not a machine gun). This probably cuts off somewhere up high but as far as most guns in this game go...
The engine-mounted gun in the Yakovlev 9U is an ShVAK 20mm auto-cannon.
The cowl-mounted guns above the engine in the Yaks are UBS 12.7mm (.50 caliber) machine guns.
-
ahh ok, but i use cannon on other planes and they dont have the same effect the yak has on rippn wings of the nme off

srry, I meant specifically this cannon...
-
According to Wiki's 20mm gun table the ShVAK's round is fairly similar to the round of the German MG151/20... which is pretty much what I experience in game.
The 109 and the Yakovlevs have an advantage of having their autocannon mounted in the 'vee' of their engine. The DB601/605 on the 109 and the KM-105 on the Yak were specially designed to have a cannon mounted in them (you could not just mount a cannon in any Merlin or Allison). Having a centrally mounted cannon supported by two centrally mounted machine guns is very beneficial as they are always at convergence, and easier to aim.
-
Ok thank you for the info :aok
-
Bubi pretty much covered what I woulda said in this thread... :D
*walks out*

To OP (and you Motherland, if applicable), in the horizontal plane at least.
-
You're probably just bragging, but either way you're a better shot than I, I generally can't get more than 2 or 3 per flight. Then again I've only been flying the 9-U for a week. So far I love it, I think it'll teach me a lot. The funnest thing though, is when I screw up and dive into the weeds at 400 MPH with someone chasing me 400 yards back. I try to fly under the treetops, and between trees 32 feet apart cause any other plane that fast is too big :) .
-
The Yak also is really better stallfightin till u eat dirt, horizontally u need speed to turn in it... that gun also just blows through the wings of any fighter and u go home happy...(btw, yes i'm partially bragging, but wanted to know specs anyway :aok)

Fire between point blank and 200 and it's a very effective gun platform, keeping it close you can average around 5-20 cannon rounds per fighter/per kill, which will put your kill/hit% in the 20% plus mark if majority of your targets are fighters, few buffs and no buildings etc to pad the stat..
It's usually for fuel that sends you back to base first, especially on large maps and even more so in the Yak-9T. If your constantly landing 7 kill bags in a Yak U before re-arm your doing very well and of course your stats would reflect this as well. ;)

I'd be a Yak dweeb, but I spoiled myself on already updated planes. Now, it's hard for me to get in my Typh or Fm2..... :(

heh. :noid
but then maybe he's doing it in offline mode...

:rofl strangely enough, i can really pull some good stuff in it, not necessarily a yak dweeb yet though..., i think bongo pulls that off enough for the both of us :aok

He's doing it online as well. So far this tour he has one kill in a yak.

SEBongo, a Yak pilot. The best Yak pilot I know is Fariz I think. You're not bad either gixer :salute

How can he then get 7-8 planes before reloading? Is my math really that bad?
-
i like the yak9t better

It makes 15-20 cannon bullets per kill...not impossible. I do 5 kills on a regular basis.

Yeah but if you have the combined experience of getting -one- kill in the place and then boasts that you can get 7-8 easy then you are on thin ice.
-
yeah....forum heroes.
-
I do have photo showing me landing 9 in a Yak9-U without re-loading. Gonna search for it...
-
Mistaken on the amount of kills, it was 8, not 9.

No vulches, 0 re-arms.
-
the most i ever land in a yak is about 5 but i normaly get about 4 depending on how spread out my shots are

hey wtg there subway. :aok

Number of kills 3,4,8,11 what ever means very little, it's how you get them that counts. 100 Vulches or picks isn't worth one good 1v1.

I was down on the deck fighting at furball island, and I managed to get lucky enough for 8 kills.

Trikky comes to my mind....BTW where the heck has he been?
-
He got booted from the forum a while ago, being aggressive and stuff...I just don't get whats wrong with him.
-
If they introduce the perk ord system we could have the Yak 9UT. Same airframe and engine as the 9U but with 2 cowl mounted 20mm cannons and a 23mm or 37mm hub mounted cannon. Think 380 or so made in the first half of '45.
That'd be pretty sweet.
-
I'd be still flying the 20mm/12mm setup, that thing is an helicopter.
-

Maybe he meant he get's 7-8 planes (his own Yaks), then one kill and has to reload. I'd find that easy too.
-
The 20mm ShVAK was actually one of the weaker WW2 20mm cannon in terms of shell destructive power: it contained far less HE than average, prompting the Soviets to develop the NS-23 23mm cannon with twice the shell weight. However, it did make up for this to some extent by having a slightly higher rate of fire than average.

and when/where would this be? checking LW jan '08 thru present you only have 3 months on which you flew a yak-9u,
Jan '08 1 kill 1 death
April '08 4 kills 5 deaths
Aug '08 1 kill, 0 deaths.
pass the salt, pls.
just sayin'
-
lol let him go, I'll substitute for the guy landing kills in Yak9u :D

ive seen people do it, and i could do it if not for damage/fuel, other day i had 3 kills and 94 rounds left....some picktard got meh cannon though :cry
