The P-38 Flying Bull (formerly known as White Lightnin') is about to leave the US for it's new home at the Red Bull Air Museum in Salzburg, Austria. It has just finished a complete restoration at
Ezell Aviation (http://www.ezellaviation.com/Past%20Pages/P38/walkaround.html) in Breckenridge, Texas. They did a beautiful job including a complete new skin. The plane had crash landeded into a Mississippi cotton field in 2001.
Great story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://www.star-telegram.com/388/story/854253.html). It will take the 7,500 mile flight from Breckenridge, Texas to Salzburg, Austria this week.

i do, but i also think that these beautiful machines should be kept in the air.
it's like you spening thousands to restore your 69 rs z28, which is one of 200 or so built that way, and then keeping it in the garage, and only trailering it to the shows.

End of an era .. I will never forget the classic music playin while that beautiful aircraft carved up the sky above.
-Frank aka GE (Lefty really knew how to put it on)
-
It looks almost like the YP-38 now.
-
It's a shame it's going overseas. :(
-
:huh thats not right :cry making her a hanger queen "just aint right pa" :(
-
Hate to see her go but I am glad that tornando didnt take her earlier this year.
-
Seriously who cares, it's just a p-38... it's not like it's something decent like a spit or a 190.

Can I shoot you in the foot, please?

:uhoh Sacrilege, :t
Don't worry the P38 won't be grounded. The Red Bull museum flies their aircraft and travel around Europe to airshows. They've already put the Lightning on the website.

Maybe, I'll be lucky to see it sometime soon.

And what's wrong with that? It's my car, I'll do as I chose, not what you want. If they choose to put it in a museum, more power to them.

ooooo..i get the point..you just wanna argue here.
all i was trying to say, is that it's a crying shame to take a beautiful piece of machinery/history, and ground her like that. she's made to fly, not sit and rot away in a museum.
sme with cars, but feel free to let yours rot in your garage if you like. if you choose that route, then you probably don't have even the remotest clue of the pleasure of driving it anyway.
:aok
-
And my point it is doesn't matter what your opinion is, it's not your P-38 nor is it your car.
Keep crying, it's very entertaining.
-
But it won't be grounded. It's a flying museum. It's not goodbye at all. Get the message.
