Loved that film! Too bad hollywood believes computer animated aircraft to be more impressive today. Otherwise we could still be watching great films somewhat similar in contrast to this one.

Actually there are fewer and fewer flyable warbirds every year. Computer animated aircraft are much better every year. It will never take the place of the real thing, but I'm hopeful that some aviation movies can be made in the future that would impossible to do now because of the lack of real aircraft.

Hehe, try it out with Shatzie. (And I did slay some 109E's as well, muhahaha)
Where has she been anyway?

Not completely true.
I have seen 24 Spitfires at work together with a whole Balbo of others.
Then there is the new 190 and 262 project.......
BTW, BoB used a lot of models as well.

Not every WWII aviation movie needs to be about Spitfires. :D
You're never going to see something like a sky full of B-17s intercepted by a Geshwader of FW-190s without CGI.
Every year there are fewer and fewer flyable warbirds, due to airshow losses and people just not willing to risk their investment anymore.
Like you said even in the movie Battle of Britain they used RC controlled Stukas because there were no real ones.
Like you though I would rather see the real thing, I just don't see it being possible in most cases.

The aircraft in the BoB film were flown by real war vets. The 109s were Spanish 109s, flown by Spanish air force pilots. Very cool stuff.

Well, you'll never need B17's or even 190's in a BoB movie anyway. And you had 190's fighting Spitties before B17's fired the first shot in anger anyway....
Now the Stukas...well that's a waste. Apparantly a delight to fly and very robust. But the models of the bigger sort quite make a challenge to even the best cgi, - the ones I have seen (up to B-17's) are awesome.
Lets all hope for more WW2 aviation on the silver screen anyway.

For aircraft that are rare such as the Stuka, they completely scan real aircraft using a lazer which builds a 3d model in a computer :aok
<edit> The new equipment even picks out colours, transparent material etc - it is really impressive stuff.

Now that's...today.
I always hate it though when they screw up the reality once they have the graphics. Over-The-Top things..."OTT".
But...imagine you could have your best AH fights covered with such...we'll have to wait a wee... ;=)

I'm aware of that I'm not talking about a BOB movie, I'm not talking about a Spit movie period. There were many other theaters of WWII where the aircraft that fought there are rare birds today. Like I said not every movie needs a Spit in it. Is Supermarine paying you? ;)
