My internet, over the last few days, has been acting real funky. It all started after I attempted to open my NAT for xbox live... I don't think opening ports has anything to do with the speed of my internet, but after that my internet just stopped, and I had to connect to wireless internet instead of cable. It was running fine until I I got home from football yesterday, and now it takes 30+ minutes for msn to log in, and internet takes about 5... It took me almost an hour just to get to HERE.
My computer has also had an unusually hard time shutting down. It sits on the "shutting down" screen for atleast 15 minutes, and then restarts, even though I clearly said to shut down and NOT restart.
Could this be a virus? I checked for problems and it said that I had connection issues, so could it be the cable company?

are you using a router? check your router settings. we had a similar issue a few weeks ago when we set up my son's xbox 360 for wireless, for some reason all the router settings got hosed

I am using a router yes, and my internet started acting funky after I messed with some of the ports so that I could open my NAT for good xbox live... but I dont know what I should be looking for when you say "router settings got hosed"

I tried playing AH today and I was warping like crazy.
I tried running a virus scan but realized I had to download a new version, so to do that I had to restart computer.
That was when, for the third time, my computer wouldn't shut off automatically. So I had to turn it off manually (holding the power button)
Somebody please help me with this.

when I say router settings I mean your router setup, IP addresses, gateway, etc. Also how old is your modem? I had these very same issues, my cable modem was 3 years old, my router just as old. New router, new cable modem, (and upgrade to 15mg down) problems resolved

I had a problem VERY similar to this, startup would take about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, my internet was esentially dead, I tried working with anti-virus software and gave up...
I had a virus called "Antivirus Xp 2008" (yes, malware)...

Hope I helped... I ended up running my comps oEm disc as I didn't find all the files and it still slowed it down, but this is what I found...

an easy check to eliminate a pssiblility would be to check all your phonelines (if running DSL) to make sure the filters are working properlyl. Also If you know what u are doing you could reset your router to it's factory settings and start from scratch there. If that doesn't fix anything the problem is probably on your computer.
