Title: /Death Magnetic\

Is anyone here anxiously anticipating the new album form /Metallica\ like I am?

I have listened to “My Apocalypse” (last song on the new album) & it reminds me of old school Metallica.

Cautiously optimistic.

Many who grew up listening to them wrote them off long ago as sell outs and nothing they ever do will match up with their early stuff.  I too feel that everything after 'And Justice for All' has been sub-par and the last couple have been down right awful.  The biggest problem with 'Death Magnetic' will be that it didn't come out in the 80's, and because of the recent failures everyone in the music industry will look for any reason to rip it apart.

Already the first single released on the web has been criticized for its terrible mixing.  I agree it sounds bad but when I heard it on the radio, it sounded much cleaner.  I think it either has something to do with the compression or it was done purposely.  Time will tell.

Will it reach the status of 'Master of Puppets'?  Nothing ever will because Puppets has been relegated to legendary status and placed on a pedestal.  Will it be the best album in the last twenty years?  That remains to be seen but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Good response.

The St. Anger album stunk on ice that is for sure.  I love their old stuff alot better as well.  I am able to look beyond what the majority thinks when it comes to music.

If you get a chance to listen to the “My Apocalypse” song, you will be pleased.  The song they (Commercial radio) are running into the ground is the song "The Day That Never Comes".

Although reminiscent of early Metallica, I don't like the mix-down of the new song.

Lars' snare sounds horrific (not in a good Metallica way), and the vocals, although better than recent years, seem a bit washed out.

Overmixed may be the word I'm looking for.

Long gone are the days of Metallica sounding like they used to.  I dont' think the content, heart or emotion is there anymore.  Sure, they could make the instruments sound the same, etc, but ..........

After so many platinum albums, Bentley(s) in the garage, multi-million dollar homes, and numerous trips around the globe, you tend to forget the days of baloney sandwiches and sharing an efficiency apartment with 3 other guys.

Basically, they don't have much left to be angry about.

Well, I am disappointed…

I listened to the rest of the songs and I hope the album bombs.  I heard lyrics about becoming a better person and stuff about love… *barf*

I’ll download the “My Apocalypse” song to my mp3 though.

Von, you’re right.  They should have stopped at their peak.

Listened to a song called Cyanide, and it did indeed suck the big one.

If it's anything like the crap someone made us listen to last week in a thread here, Metallica needs to hang it up and get mall security jobs. They're through.
