This is too much !

My favorite plane updated! WTG :aok :rock :aok

Nice job, HTC! How long will we have to wait? How many others have you redone? :)
-
Anyone else notice the difference in the cannon packages between this
(http://www1.hitechcreations.com/news/images/il2/il231.jpg)
and this?

Yipee!!
Now we need the HE-111. :)
-
Good eyes soulyss! :salute
-
In both cases they removed the ShKAS 7.62mm machine guns we currently have on the Il2.
-
Different selectable gun packages it looks like.

What did they replace them with?
-
Oh nvm I see the ShKAS' gun barrels now.. never realized they was so small.
-
looks great :rock

37MM option! w00t! FINALLY!
Anyone know the ballistics/joules of energy for the AP / High velocity Soviet 37mm on the IL2? I know the Yak had the HE version, but the IL2 should be fun vs. GV's with that 37mm with AP ammo!
-
From the aircraft/vehicles thread NS-37 Hammerguns for anti-tank missions on an IL-2:

Now to wish for the upgraded rockets for the 190F-8 so it has a role ;)

I say the Stuka is next. Bring it on Ju-87G!
-
Yeah, STUKA!
12 rds per gun? Did the G-2 drop the 20mm to mount the 37mm, or did it keep them on the D-5 frame for the G variant?
-
With these NS37s you really don't need the Stuka's BK guns. Oh sure the BK guns are much more powerful, but with these you could land 20 rounds on target in the same period of time it would take you to mis with 4 rounds on the BK. Belt fed, high rate of fire (relatively speaking) and did noticably more damage than the 23mm guns our current Il2 has.
That's a very promising guns package!
That means, however, we've got the late-war IL2 model and it really won't be suitable to use in earlier scenario/SEA setups because of these guns.
-
He-111? :huh
-
Amen! :aok
-
It is my hope that when most planes get done, they have a "big gun" option.
Time for the Tse-tse!
Just so everyone has that "owchies" option. ;)
-

True True...It's currently not much of a ground attack plane.
-

I kill GV's routinely with the 190F-8 rockets.

Am i seeing 3 x tailguns?

-
Looks that way to me. :O

It's hard to hit GVs with the rockets, but that's true to life. When you do hit vehicles, kills are common. I've killed tanks and other GVs with the 190 F8's rockets this way.
And this plane is a de-acking monster. With 12 rockets, plus an 1100 lb bomb, and two 20mm cannons for followup, you can de-ack an entire small airfield single-handedly if you choose your attack passes carefully so you don't get shot down by the ack before you can bring all your weapons to bear. This is the best de-acking plane I know.
-
Could this be the new Il-2 Type 3M?
Type 3M has NS-37 cannons.

I think our new IL-2 Type 3M variant is not a too-late-war variant. A late war variant Shturmovik would be the IL-10.
Our IL-2 Type 3M would fall somewhere around mid-1943-1944. Now we need an IL-2 variant that was used in 1942 to early 1943 (IL-2M, with ShVAK-20s).
-
We also need PTABs
"...Another powerful weapon of the Il-2 was PTAB-2,5-1,5 HEAT bomblets (ProtivoTankovaya AviaBomba, Anti-Tank Aviation Bomb - the number means that it was the size of a 2.5 kg bomb, but weighed only 1.5 kg due to the empty space in the shaped charge). Up to 192 were carried in four external dispensers or up to 220 in the internal weapon bays. The HEAT charge easily penetrated the relatively thin upper armor of heavy German tanks. PTABs were first used in large scale in the Battle of Kursk.
-
Nice. I am glad to see the Il-2 get the NS-37 as an option. It should help with the Ostwinds and Wirblewinds as well as keep the IL-2 viable against heavy armor.

They're not side by side, the tubes you are seeing are stacked on top of each other. Kind of like an AK-47s gas collection tube. They work something like that, would be my guess. Or they have bolt springs in them, or something.
Optical illusion :)
-
The one closest to the gun barrel is obviously a gas tube... but I don't know what the topmost is.
-
Ooo the cry from dedicated gver to perk it in..

Have to say, it's going to be interesting aiming those big 37mm guns, considering instead of a gunsight it has a 'shoot somewhere in this circle' thing on the windshield.
-
Yeah, STUKA!

The 20mm wing mounted cannons were not retained from the G-2 variant that were upgraded from D-5 air frames.
ack-ack

how about the 37mm cannon instead of the 23mm cannon? ehh
Fixed : thanks subway

oops good catch thanks. I was still drooling over the thought of 37 mm cannon fire ripping into some tigers. ;)

agreed :)
-
hmmmm....
Will IL-2 Type 3M fire its NS 37mm cannons the same way like the Hurri 2D's 40mm Vickers to hit ground targets?
-
Same 37mm as the Yak-9T right? Just with AP ammo instead of HE. One would assume the same rate of fire and ammo load per gun on the IL-2 with the 37mm...
-
So, is this going to be a whole new Il2 or is our current one being replaced?
I like the idea of adding it as a variant, kind of flesh out the Russian planeset a little.
Next up we need the Yak3! :aok

The Ki43 would be nice

Ahhh... that makes much more sense. Thanks.
3 tailguns would be a lot of fun tho :(

I would still use the 23mm, i have no problem killing tanks with it. The 37mm is probably going to be less accurate.

lower velocity, lower accuracy, lower rate of fire, and not as good to kill fighters.
-
The NS37 actually has MORE power (Joules) per round that hits than the BK3.7 does.
Consider that ;)
-
Definitely liking the new textures for the IL-2. Very nice work Airmess and Waffle! :aok

But BKs penetrates harder and deeper.
-
Yes, I know, but the raw joules per hit is higher. I guess that means things like flak turrets, aircraft, bombers, trains, etc, where armor penetration don't count, will be easier to kill.
EDIT: I wonder if you could kill a hangar with it? :noid
-
But BKs penetrates harder and deeper.
Aint that the truth.... :lol
-
Only reason they do is because they are also smaller and quicker. :noid

Whoosh!
