Title: I have a lot of great music
Post by: Mustaine on September 01, 2008, 02:20:49 AM
But going through a buzzed LOUD listening to a bunch of it I have realized something...

Everything I passionately love and go "WHOO HOO" to is from over a decade and longer.

I know I am older, but am I really turning into a newmusicphobe? A quick run down of what I just love to death (this is going to be a bit weird, and unkiltered; a munge of many dis-similar generas, just a glimpse into what I enjoy) :

Megadeth - Good Mourning / Black Friday
The Beastie Boys - Rhymin & Stealin
Smashing Pumpkins - Hummer
Travis Tritt - Here's a Quarter
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life by the Drop
The Prodigy - Firestarter
Mother Love Bone - Crown of Thorns
Prince & the Revolution - The Beautiful Ones
Reba McEntire - Fancy
Animotion - Obsession
Pearl Jam - Breakerfall
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Limp Bizkit - My Way
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
The Rentals - Friends of P.
Jewel - The New Wild West
Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground

you younger fellas, even older folks, help me out. Music has lost it's taste. I love to listen, but there is nothing to listed to. I have tried the pop stations, rock stations, indie stations, XM, internet streaming, all I personally know; all to no avail.

I refuse to believe there is nothing in music new / coming out that is ear-worthy.

If you know of a song / band that is reminiscent to anything listed above please let me know. If you are going to say "the white stripes" or something like that don't waste my time, I hate them, and most everything like them.

hope to hear some suggestions!

I say blame major record labels for making you hate music.  Hate them for starting Loudness war (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ).  Due of the ongoing Loudness War, today's music sound like static because of narrow dynamic range.  Even remastered albums to CD sound sound like poop because record companies believe that making everything loud equals more $$$.

so what's the shocker for you?  where do you think "oldies" stations get their support from?  it should hardly be an epiphany for you. the fact you refer to has always seemed a matter of course to me.  then again I had to sit in a stationwagon while my dad smoked kents and farted with the windows rolled up as we cruised around town and he sang along to melancholy baby off key.  we had no sony walkmans I could listen to in the back, we just learned to appreciate some of the music from by-gone eras and occasionally were treated to WFUN or WQAM instead of WIOD all the time.

Try devin townsend.. a mix of old school metal/rock with a new style. I got to see the band live a couple of years ago, and they were fantastic.
