I haven't seen anyone mention that they plan on attending the Westover AFB Airshow this weekend Saturday, September 6th, and Sunday, September 7th. Anyone planning on attending? Here is the website for those interested. www.greatnewenglandairshow.com (http://www.greatnewenglandairshow.com)
Looks like Sunday is going to be the better of the two days. FYI, this is the first show since 2004. Usually they have it every other year. But with the political climate lately, the 2006 show was canceled.

Thanks for the heads-up, Obie. Westover shows are always good shows. :aok
Easy to get in and out of, too... unlike Hanscom shows.
-
Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try to get out there Saturday. It's a little bit of a drive from Plymouth but well worth it. :aok
-
cool thanks for the post , have not seen anything about this on the news :aok dont what day I'm going yet, but will post when i know. :D
-
I just might have to show up for this
-
I may be able to go still not sure though. Ill post when I find out.
-
Depending how the weather looks, I'll likely fly in for it.

I have a hard time going to these. I've made it to the Reading PA WWII weekend a few times. That one has a lot of warbirds, and the show is just great with what they put on both in the air and on the ground.
The westover show is more newer birds, thought they do have some old warbirds. The show though can only be second rate for me. I was in the Navy and stationed on board the USS Eisenhower. A nuclear carrier out of VA. At the time I was assigned to her she was the newest of the fleet. (did the ratings off of Cuba, am a plank owner, and a shellback <-- lookum up if ya don't know what they are :D ) When we had dignitary's on board they would put on a show. Nothing can compare to F-14's and A-6 dropping live ordinance on a target mapped out by smoke bombs the helos would drop. Talk about "buzzing the tower". They would would scream by 500 feet off the water, 500 feet off the port side ! They were a dot in the sky when the boom would hit you ! LOL!!!
Only reason I'd make the run down the pike would be to meet some of you guys out there, but doing a bunch of travel for my company, hoping to spend the weekend home with the little woman ( hope the wife doesn't find out :P)
Have fun, post some pictures !

Sounds and looks like a good time and I would like to meet up with others from this area. But, the weather will be an issue for me plus the cost and reservations availability for the car. I can't just get in the car and drive to wherever and whenever. Would be fun though...

Hello Obie303,
I am going for sure. Why would Sunday be the better of the days? Usually I think its Saturday that has the most performers. I cannot find a schedule though. I was planning on Saturday.
And you know these shows are getting smaller. It used to be the entire airforce and there friends showed up. Now its just a few jets. Maybe its the fuel thing. I mean, this year they even have a sailplane demo. That's pretty green heh. Whats next?....
....ON THE LEFT...ITS THE 2008 USAF KITE FLYING TEAM!!!!!.....
Ok, let me know...

Still not 100% sure as to which day im going..looking more like saturday for me.
-
Beware, we are expecting the remnants of that hurricane to move through this weekend. If it doesn't im going saturday for part of the show, have to leave early to get to work for 6 though.
-
Tropical storm Hanna looks like she may put a damper on Saturday. I'm planning on Sunday right now. I'm hoping Hanna (if she makes landfall in New England) turns to the east and gives us at least one good day. But bear in mind, in order for the Thunderbirds to perform, they need an area of clear skies almost up to 10 miles.
Oh and Greenville Maine is having their airshow this weekend too.
Hope to see some of you there!

I may go if all is well.
-

I know!
the only chance of me not going is if its really raining hard up there.
-
Sunday it is for me. Thanks to work and weather my Saturday is shot up like the donut end of one of my planes.
-
I got called into work for a 16 hour shift because of this storm. I'm still planning on going Sunday after I get out of work. (I may be a little grumpy because of the lack of sleep, but I'll be there.) I'll be wandering around with the wife and a few friends. Look for me wearing a black baseball cap with "Sig Arms" in white letters.
Oh, I go by the name of Ron. I'd hate to see anyone yelling out "Obie303". Then again, if you yell "Check 6", that'll also get my attention. :D

Let's plan around some of the WWII planes around 1030 hrs. I'm heading out that way around 0900 hrs. Hope to see you guys there.
-
I was planning on meeting you obie. As I got off the highway it was 9:30 hit HUGE traffic and ended up takeing till 11:30 just to get there. :( I kept my eye out for a black hat with sig arms on it, do you know how many people had black hats on????? Anyways mabey next time :aok I had fun.

"HUGE" traffic jam was putting it mildly! The wife and I hit that jam on the pike around 0930 also. Almost 1.5 hours later, we managed to get to the off-ramp. My wife and I couldn't take it so we decided to take a break and come back later in the afternoon. We arrived shorly after 1430 hrs and found that the base was closed because of all the foot traffic. A mile walk in from where we parked (and I forgot my camera in the car too!). But with all that waiting, it was a very nice day.
I was very surprised at the turnout. I'm sure we'll meet up at a 2009 show! We'll just plan it a little better :aok
