So why pick the name "Aces High", was it a team decision, or did Hitech choose the name, and why?
Discuss away.

Gerbils low was already taken? :D
-
Well, my guess is that the name is Aces High because of the double entendre: "Ace" is both an aviation term and also (typically) the highest rank in a deck of cards. I'll let the real geniuses explain further.
Or maybe they really love Iron Maiden. :lol
-
It's also a kick-ass Iron Maiden song.

the Iron Maiden song was written in homage to the movie.

HiTech demanded it, and no one dared to object.

One did once, but even the mention of his name could result in a PNG.... :noid

Interesting bit of Maiden related news for today:
RAF pilots flown home courtesy of Iron Maiden
Published: September 2, 2008
From The Independent:
RAF pilots flown home courtesy of Iron Maiden
Bruce Dickinson, the singer with heavy metal outfit Iron Maiden, has in the past performed for British troops in Iraq. On Sunday, he did his bit for our boys in Afghanistan.
Dickinson, a qualified pilot for British airline Astraeus, was behind the controls of a Boeing 747 that the Ministry of Defence had chartered to transport a group of RAF pilots back home.
"A lot of them recognised him because they are Maiden fans, but he was there in his professional capacity as a pilot," says an RAF spokesman. "He gave out lots of signatures to the guys."
And from The Mirror:
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson takes the pilot's seat of a Boeing 757
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, 50, shocked 106 members of the RAF returning from Afghanistan, when he took control of a Boeing 757 and flew them from Cyprus to RAF Wittering, Cambs, on Sunday.
But don't panic, he's a trained pilot.
Btw, does anyone know if "Maiden Heaven" is/will be released in the US?

Back when Dale owned a P-51, Skuzzy switched the oxy tank with some nitros. In a stupor, Dale dove on a helpless flock of geese and became an ace in a day. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :aok

HiTech demanded it, and no one dared to object.
Well...that's pretty much what happened. :D
-
And a movie.
it was on ITV last weekend when i was flicking through the channels caught it half way through a ww1 dogfight.
The ending pretty much summed up what goes on in AH :lol
-
HiTech decreed that Aces High was the name, and so it was.
-
Because "Aces Low" was already taken. HT then decided to make a flight sim instead of tank sim. :D

Somehow, I have it stuck in my head that "Aces High" was a military call sign or something that was communicated via radio...or it was a call to scramble, or something like that...it was a short blurb that was used to mean something...like "get your butt out to your plane and take off" ...or something along those lines. I'm old, relatively speaking in this venue, but not that old.
-
Just a link in case anybody honestly thought that Iron Maiden came up with Aces High...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075627/
-
Why Aces High?
Well, maybe because calling it 'Hordes NOE', like it really is in the MA, would not of attracted some business.
Or, maybe the name '10 guys waiting for the FHs to come up' would of been a bit much as well.
(note: this isn't a slap against HTC, just the player induced gameplay lately)
-
The real reason is Hitech can't spell anything over 4 letters....
-
You know what, this really brings up a good idea........
I need to start more threads that have no value.
LOL, kidding with you titanic3.
But I really don't care why....
My question is this... As cute as an IL2 might be, why in the wide world of sports would they name the game that. Perhaps because they just aint as smart as our team in Grapevine!!! WORD!
-

of course! almost everything Steve Harris writes is based on a movie :D
-
"Flying Stoners" was already taken as well.

You know, this game should really be called "Aces Low".. Most of the best sticks I know rarely get over 6 or 7k and are usually pwning all in the dirt.. :rock

Could you imagine a squeaker asking his Mom for her credit card number so he can play an online game called "Picktard Score Wh*res"?
I would love to see the look on her face :lol :lol :lol

And all this time I thought he was related to one of the crew for the plane named "Aces High" from WWII.
