Title: My Bro is thinking about Joining up...
Post by: 1pLUs44 on September 03, 2008, 04:28:22 PM
He just talked to a recruiter today. He wants Arent Ready for Marines Yet so he can be an MP and get a scholarship quickly. I'm still trying to talk him into Marines, but, it isn't up to me. Anyone know anything that would be best for his future as Army or Marines?

Sadly though, where-ever he goes, I go. If he goes Army, I'll go when I gruaduate High School. (He graduates this year)

Joining as an officer has advantages in the long-run.

There isn't anything wrong with joining the Army. Mabye the Army is the right fit for him. It all goes down to what u go with. I too am highly intrested in enlisting with the United States Army. I have been doing alot of research on the other services. School is very hard for me, I don't like sitting in a desk all day so that exculed the Air force, navy and coast guard automaticly (with the exeption of a few jobs). I would like to travel and be based in europe which the army has bases, unfortunetly the marines dont also i like how the army offers a signing bonus "up to" $40,000 (this all depends of what u sign up for and MOS). I have full respect for all Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen. They are doing a amazing job out there we should all be supportive! :salute

Your brother may want to check out www.goarmy.com (http://www.goarmy.com). there is a really neat discussion board that he could talk to soldiers about there jobs and what it is like deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as well as a normal day in the military. Good luck :aok

I come from a Navy family.

When my time came, being a rebel; I joined the United States Army. Proud of my decision... was long ago.

"The Army doesn't change. We're the only arm of the military where the weapon is the man himself."

I wish him, and you; the best of luck!

He talked to a recruiter, and is trying to sign up and be an MP, which I doubt is gonna happen. Right now, I'm going through the tedious process of trying to get him in the Marines.

Like I said, where he goes, I go. We look almost like twins, we fight together, chill, and hang. May as well do it in the Armed Services. (He's 2 years older than me)

I know nothing about this, so correct me if I'm wrong, but if you join two years after your brother, isn't the chance of you being assigned together pretty slim? If that's the case, I'd say better to go do what you want to do than do what your brother wanted to do. If that means you're in the Marines and he's in the Army, so be it.

Keep in mind that you do not get a route to an ROTC scholarship through a recruiter. Recruiters do not obtain Officers. For information on ROTC you should be talking to the ROTC folks at the college you want to attend. They can get the application for you.

If you are serious about it you need to have grades in the top 10% of your grade level. You should be lettering in a sport. You should be in activities in school that will show leadership potential. You should have already found out about the scholarship requirements by your Junior year in HS.

Course, but we agreed that we'll be in the same service, and I'm gonna stick through it.

I spent four years in USAF and never sat behind a desk once.

Fair enough - good luck with whatever you decide. >
