Title: CiC: please use BCC
Post by: forHIM on September 04, 2008, 08:31:51 AM

When sending orders, please use BCC for the CO/XO/3rd/4th people.  This will cut down on the possibility of one of us getting a virus and sending out spam to 50 to 100 other players.  Please respect your fellow players and start using BCC.  Standard procedure would be to

1. Set the to line to your email address
2. Set all the other players as BCC's.

As the orders / communication items I've seen recently include everyone's email address on the To line, it is too easy for a mail bot / virus to grab them and ruin a lot of players days with extra spam, etc.

Thanks for reading this mini-rant.

Great idea forHIM. Might want to update the mailto link on the ahevents.org site to reflect this (if possible) as a weekly reminder. Maybe add something to the same page about copy and paste to bcc line if using that option.

Ignore my original post. Just realized this was aimed at CiCs and not CMs.

GD,

As for paper trail, are you looking for something you can send to SLED saying yes you did send it to XYZ?  If I send a message with a number of BCC people on it, both my outlook box and my gmail accounts show in my sent folders items who the message went to with the BCC people listed.  However, when I forward that message to someone else, the BCC stuff is not shown.  So if I needed to prove to SLED I sent the message to XYZ squad, I'd have to do a screenshot of the message in my browser/outlook message.

Okay, will  dig into Outlook to see if it is a configuration issue on my end since I am not seeing the BCC list in the cc of the message I have in my sent folder.
