Title: Blu-ray DVD
Post by: SLCR on September 04, 2008, 09:49:43 AM
I just purchased and hooked up a new 1080p HDTV for the new football season.  I also added a blu-ray player to enjoy movies when not watching football and the rest of baseball.
I want to rent a blu-ray dvd this weekend.  Any recommendations on which dvd that will get me the best "WOW!" experience the first time I fire this puppy up??

Pirates of the Caribbean looks great on Blu Ray. Pay attention to the ocean and background detail.. It is impressive.

There's always Rambo 4 also, there's nothing quite like a high definition massacre in full surround sound to help satisfy one's blood lust.

Anything new that doesn't rely on a lot of CGI and overly digital visual effects will be a good way to test it out. The extra-sharp picture makes digital stuff look even more digital and fake, which can ruin some scenes, I think.

Pay attention to the fake fires in Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and you'll see what I mean. Watch a scene on DVD, then the same on BR and you'll see what I mean.

Debbie does Dallas. Alittle outdated, but the concept hasn't changed since the stone age.

The "Planet Earth" series is available on BR now.  I don't know if you can rent it, but it's sure worth the purchase.  It was beautifully filmed in 1080p.

Dunno about this.  A buddy of mine has a video set up through a projector at home and he won't watch porn on it.  Too much detail.

Blade Runner, I Am Legend, 300 and Behind Enemy Lines (DTS-HD) are just a few i would recommend. The cgi in 300 is excellent
