And by "my" I mean it. She came to me as a 1975 CB750F, barely runing and all rusted up. The previous owner ran her to the ground, drove 80 miles a day for 3 years, and never even changed the oil. Since he couldn't get her to run, I picked her up for $850 :cry.
After 3 straight days of cleaning, hitting the chromes and frame with rubbing compound, she looked at least ridable.

Rubbing coumpound does miracle on lightly pitted chromes.

But since it's my bike, I have to make it my own. A hit of my rebel side combined with my love of aviation, I came up with that : A cafe racer based on the P51 gunfighter.

Easy thing first, remove the handlebars, install clubman handlebars, drill/groove as necessary to run electrical. Talking about electrical ... nothing worked. Armed with the testlight & factory diagram, reroute wires 1 by 1. Since I was at it, I removed the front/back blinkers and installed the sexy BMW handlebars blinkers.

Electrical all working, removed the dummy tree light between the speedo/tach and installed the Neutral & LowOilPressure light in the headlight cover. On to the carbs. Removed the 4 carbs, took appart, soaked/cleaned.

Reinstalled, kick started and started right away. Still has minor issues with iddle, but otherwise runing squeaking.

On to the tank, airplane paint remover, 3 coats later I was more or less down to the alluminum. Finished sanding to this look :

Masked, painted, clear coated the bare alluminum.

Moved on to the cafe seat, snaded/primed/sanded/painted

hacked away a bunch of stuff on the way for proper fitting:

How on earth did you get that engine so clean? mine looks all gray and crappy like yours did to start... I'm using mothers polish on my chrome, but the pits are still there. what compound do you use?

Nice looking little "rat bike" you have there. From the first pictures with the floor boards it looks like it used to be a Police model bike.
-
AWESOME BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What was the total cost, if you don't mind me asking? I would like to build a bike one day.
It would have to be a RATT bike (thanx Maverick LOL!).
Are you going to spray the numbers on?

Nice work Frenchy :)
-
VERY Nice work.
But I think this pic would have been better and more effective if you had been wearing a leather helmet.

Thanks guys, appreciated. For the chromes I used :

Get a waxing pad and go at it, scrub as hard as u can on the chromes. I also had great success on my trucks bumper with :
(http://www.turtlewax.com/img/products/pd_tw_chromepolish.jpg) really have to scrub hard till the compound wears off after drying. Then hit it with a clean rag to remove the powdery residue.
As far as the engine, I sanded it with this look alike abrasive wheel that you find at autozone in the body work dept. I used the softer one connected to my drill.
Don't go too crazy as u are removing a bit of the alluminum when u do that. To prevent the alluminum to tarnish again, I coated it with spary can clear coat, and so far it didn't burn. If you want to chrome look polish them, u start with the wheel, then u go higher and higher with sand papers like 160 200 500 1200 1600 ... and every new sanding u sand 90 degress from the previous sanding. You don't sand in circle, but back and forth.
... or you go on ebay, you can pick them up already chromed for $30 each cover.
Yes I'll paint the number 59 in a mil style, already made the template, have yet to cut it, tape it.
I might still go with dark yellow rim :cry
So far :
$850 for the bike
$200 ignition coils (old ones too rusted)
$25 spark plugs
$100 new intake manifold boots (old ones cracked)
$30 footpegs/brake pedal/shifter pedal from the junkyark.
$80 vinyl bombgirl/checkers
$160 cafe racer seat from 750cafe.com
$30 for oil, $20 something for the air filter.
about $50 of spray cans/primer/sanding stuff.
$35 clubman handlebars
$40 BMW blinkers.
about $1,500.00
I knew about "zip" about bikes, they are really easy to work on, including electrical. Every bolt is 10, 11 or 12mm. Go for it man, you'll have fun and it's pretty rewarding to drive something u drew on paper a month ago.
