Title: An Idea for Perk Points!!
Post by: Wegaman on January 02, 2001, 04:50:00 PM
I just thought of this. How about if u create a mission, like bobming or jaboing a base then capture, all who signed up for it and launched get an amount of points if the mission works. It would promote team play(Which is almost non existent) , and add a sense of realisim to the game in everyone going as a group to accomplish something, not just trickling in 1 at a time.  Any ideas? I dunno, i just thought it would help with the lack of teamplay and co operation

Ya whenever u mention team play and Aces High and the same sentence, most people blow u off. I have seen other forums talking bad about AH because of the lack of it, they say everyone just grabs a fighter and furballs all day  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)  Not the image we wanna give out

Any ideas that promote team play with out hurting indivuals is welcome. I.E. Somthing that rewards team play but dosn't demand it is always welcome.

I like the general idea Wegaman, but will have to consider some details for it.
One problem I can think of is that just by making the muteual points you would deture the better players from joining a mission.

But the idea of more perk points if you are in a missions is a good one.

wow, HT responded! Cool. Yeah, something that encourgaed team play and gave small amounts of perk points would be very neat.

I think this is nive idea. Anything that promotes teamwork in arena is good.

I haven't played around with mission editor yet but defining goal for mission and checking if it is really achieved should be possible, atleast for captures or bombing ships or cities. Fighter sweeps could be bit harder.

There should be also a way to prevent players making missions that allow almost anything to be done and gain extra perk points.

This was posted in the original topic in the General discussion with other thoughts as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A mission could be scored using the same catagories that are already installed. Fighter, Attack, Bomber.

(Now as I go a bit further, take in account this might be a little complicated to score correctly, dunno..I'm just a player)

A successful mission would require that A) you be a part of the mission (duh) and B) that you land after the mission or bail successfully in friendly territory (if you don't make it back how can u be successful?). Therefore getting INDIVIDUAL points for the mission. The benefit is that some kind of multiplier could possibly be used to distinguish Mission points from normal flying perk point.

Attack and Bomber missions would be self explanatory..you destroy..land..perk point + the multiplier.

Fighter missions ie; escort or free range missions could be done the same way as the rest OR their points could be determined upon how many returning ships came home that they were there to escort. Since free ranging missions could possibly be misused possibly restrict mission points for fighters to the escort only position.

Some might argue that a mission can be successful even if u died but I'm tring to cut down possibly loop holes that ppl could use to gain points w/o much effort.

Simplified example
You take bomber mission, gain 2.5 perk points and land (2.5 x 4 = 10)..you bail in friendly territory (2.5 x 1.5 = 3.75)

Escort mission, gain 2.5 perk points, land and 4 of 5 bombers land at ur worth of .25 points apiece (2.5 x 2 +.25(x4) = 6)..bail (2.5 x 1.5 + .25(x4) = 4.75)

Like I said..simple math example only

AS soon as Perk points are given out for "winning" a war then you see a great deal of Team work.

I really like the idea!. I'll add my own twist. Make perk bases for the perk planes. Capture an enemy perk base and you can fly your planes out of there. Add to that supporting perk factories that supply the perk planes. Bomb the perk factory and that limits the number of perk planes. Even add two levels of perk planes. Planes like the P-51H or P-47M could be flown out of any base and would only be tied to the ecomomy like normal planes. The next level of perk planes would be the Me 262 and Me163. These planes could ONLY be flown from perk bases and are tied to the perk factories. Planes like the Me262 and the Me163 were very advanced. Even when under production their resource drain was great do to the exotic materials needed and production methods that were new. Planes like the P-51H and the P-47M still relied on standard materials and production methods already in place for the most part. Your idea of making perk points tied with missions plus what I stated above would make for a lot more strategic game. People might actually get together and form big bomber groups with escorts on a regular basis. There are several strat targets offered to bomb but it seems everyone bombs the HQ and the rest get left alone 99% of the time. Maybe if you could screw with the other guys ability to use his perk planes people might go bomb something other than the HQ now and then. On top of that they would get perk points for working together! Great idea on the perk mission!

Yes, i agree it's a very cool idea  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I don't know about u guys, but my perfect AH dream would be to have bobmers being escorted by fighters, and having an enemy intercept group meet us head on  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  Mass buff fire, escorts braking off to fight  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

 This would definatly encourage this.

For offensive missions there is time to make it happen but what about interception?

Most of the time enemy organized offensive is noticed at very near their target.

That means no time for building a mission. How about a sort of shortcut for simple interception mission? Also in my opinion some kind of noticing system should be in place. Maybe a pop up message that there is a mission available...scramble scramble....

Yeah, a small box on the top left or something could list all mission and u could select your flgiht from a plane... some people don't know where the map rom is ect.  Ya a scramble message would be great.

Yes a mission ready post or something would be good. I'm always very disappointed when I see a big mission headed out and I never new one was happening. My favorite part of this game is going on the prepared missions. Team play! Even if I get smoked right off the bat it's still better than the lone wolf conveyer belt driving into enemies in 1's and 2's. The other day the Knights did a cool mission with P-47 and B-17's against the Rooks. It looked cool in the air.

Squads cooperate amongst themselves.  squads sometimes join other squads for group ops.

Wega I like your idea.

I see you hollering for teamplay alot in the arena, get involved in a squad, either create one or join one.  Hollering over team channel rarely accomplishes much, as I am sure you've noticed.  Typically a squadmate's call to arms carries alot more weight  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
