Title: Mezcal
Post by: Wolf14 on September 06, 2008, 02:19:02 AM
Heh, Been drinking the stuff here of late. I likes it. Settles in smoother than tequila and I can stomach it over tequila. I got tequila sick one time and cant stand to smell it without starting to want to retch my guts out.

I had a friend bring me some stuff back from Mexico to try. I finished that bottle off last week, worm and all, and I have to say it was a much nicer experience overall than tequila.

I had a fella try to tell me that Mezcal and Tequila were one and the same.I didn't believe him. I found the taste was to distinct in my opinion to be the same as Tequila. So I did some reading up on it.

Thought I'd share for those that simply just need something to read or want to know. I'm kinda bored at the moment.

I love mezcal. To me, it is like a blend of tequila and scotch. Gives me that same wood-like aftertaste that scotch does.

I also like grossing out the girlfriend by chomping into the grub.

Drank plenty of that stuff when I was in Mexico City back in February. Had a great time with it and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Traditional Mezcal and tequila have two very different flavors, but there is an old saying that if you can tell the difference, you haven`t drank enough of it. :)

I remember back in 1980 I tried Mezcal after watching Urban Cowboy.  Kinda was a fad for awhile due to the movie.  Might pick up a small bottle before long and try it again to see if I like it.

The only spirits I've had that I know all I need to know about is Bacardi 151.  That is one thing I will not drink straight from the bottle.  The buzz can't accurately be described as being drunk.  It's not a pleasant drink to be sure.  Not a falling down drunk but more like a serious vision quest.  Not pleasant to drink.  At least for me. :lol

To me, it tastes like diesel smells.

I think I had a bottle in the bar for about 2-3 years once.

Mezcal is probably smoother than 151.  But seems I remember it as being kinda a hot drink.  Guess it's an acquired taste.
