From a biological standpoint, old growth forests aren't as diverse as new growth.  For example, deer need new growth forest and clear-cut areas in order to thrive.  If these crazy hippies are crying because a logging company chopped down a few trees, then its all for nothing.  However, if an old-growth forest is being converted into a subdivision, then maybe they do have something to cry about.

I always, always, always wonder why peta-freaks & tree-huggers like that can't take all of that obvious passion & put it somewhere that actually makes a difference in the lives of the people around them.

the problem is, though, that they think that whay they're doing IS helping people around them. i don't/can't understand how they think this, but they do.

LOL I noticed that too.  maybe I shouldn't laugh, I don't want to hurt the rock's feelings and cause more wailing...

The sad thing is, these geniuses are no doubt products of our public school system - these are the ones we are relying on to keep America competitive in the 21st Century.  I think we're in trouble.

That was hilarious :aok

I wonder how much Hippie Lettuce they smoked before that little get together---and if they cried to the resin & ashes later.

I also wonder how many AH fourms posters were actually in attendance...look like a few I have read posts from....especially in the "I got HO'ed" threads.

They bawl for a dead plant but I'm betting have never given a second thought to the slaughtered 40 million unborn human beings in America. Hard for me to feel anything for them but revulsion.

Coming from WNC where we had a prologging representative for a long time it is sad to see Old Growth forests being logged.

There are only a few of them left that have been untouched by logging.

http://www.main.nc.us/graham/hiking/joycekil.html (http://www.main.nc.us/graham/hiking/joycekil.html)

Joyce Kilmer is an amazing place to visit if you get the chance.  Amazing to think that just a couple hundred years ago a lot of WNC mountain coves would resemble it.  I remember going with Boy Scouts when I was young.  When it took 10 of us hand in hand to wrap around one of the trunks it really put the trees age into perspective.

With so few old growth forests left I would scorn any who recommend logging them.  With so few remaining it is only greed driving the logging, no need.

"I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree...."
-Kilmer

And before anyone starts bashing Kilmer as a tree loving hippy you would be proud to know he gave his life for his country in WW1 and that the forest is a living memorial.
