My Father commanded an artie battery in Vietnam.
He went on to be 2IC of the regiment and lectured in Artillery at Land Warfare Centre Canungra.

It's impressive but I did notice a few things..

Section chief is not verifying deflection for each shot, he is also not verifying the charge for each shot, and no one is making sure the breach is clear before loading..

Well way back in the day when I was a 13B on the M110A2's we never verified deflection nor swabbed the breach while conducting rapid fire. We would for a sustained fire but that also allows the crew to take a little more time, but damned if we EVER got off 3 rounds in 20 seconds with an 8" howitzer. I think the best we were able to pull was 5 rounds a minute in rapid fire. Of course the M110 also had a mechanical loading tray and rammer and it wasn't as fast as what those guys are able to do with a 155mm.

I was only a 13B for a year though before I went 13M (MLRS) and got to play with rockets. Now that was fun!!!

I garuntee thats just some training exercise out in the desert, just shooting out in the middle of nowere.

I was with the 1/33rd F.A. in Bamberg Germany. Cannon cockers are great but when it has to be destroyed now they call the 13M's into action.
