Very nice :)

Congrats! And a good choice! My happiest "Automobile day" was the day I took delivery of a new BMW 330ci in 2001. Unfortunately it was 2 days after 9/11 so it took some of the excitement off the delivery day.
So, did you go for the 328 or 335 model? Stick or slushy? What options did you get?
-
Sweet! WTG RT. :aok
-
Ohh thats Nice! I test drove a 135i, whata rocket sled!
Personally Im saving and waiting for a 2010 Camaro, Hoping for black with red interior, RS package, SS trim level, with a 6 speed man (cause it comes with te LS3)

Be sure to claybar it and give it a good coat of wax. The rail dust that mine had on it was incredible. Then wax it a min of twice a year. It's amazing how well these hold there value. A BMW in good shape will sell immediately when that time comes years from now. Mine had nearly 90k on it when I sold it and I had no problem selling it for what I wanted in price. I had a couple of callers willing to pay me more than I was asking but I'd already taken a down from the buyer.

Nice car :)
If i dont buy a flat somewhere im going to buy a new car , i have always wanted a fast car but never been able to afford the thing , well now i can my choice is the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 .To get to where i live you need to get on the ferry and the ramp angles can somtimes be a bit harsh so some clearance is needed also i will need some carrying capacity and as i live in the middle east and Cayanne's are ten a penny i have a very childish glee in being in a car that is half the price but quicker :)
Again Redtop ...nice car :)

328...Auto w/ steptronic. Sat Radio....Leather....Dual AC.... to be honest I don't know WHAT all it has. It's a 2008. No packages. My wife was NOT going to have the sports package at all. She said the ride wasn't worth the money. I tend to agree since I am not into the autocross scene or anything like that. I did take it out on a twisty road today tho. Put it in manual and had a bit of fun. Handles like you wouldn't believe. Actually better than my Vette I had I think. Very quick and smooth with the power. Comfoatable to sit in and drive....Im very happy with it.

Booo Euro trash Boooooo. ;)
Just kidding Red, have fun with it. :aok

Nice car. I have to admit though, after having a kid and wanting to have a second, I'm leaning heavily towards a pontiac G8 with the big engine. The 2008 G8 GT has around 360hp, and there will be a GTX model in 2009 that ought to have closer to 400hp. Sticker price on the GT is only $31k, and since the car is based around fully mature technology (proven LS series engine and holden chassis) the maintenance costs over the long term ought to be very reasonable compared to a BMW. For "long term" I mean including everything from changing out a fuel or water pump to replacing a bumper when your wife backs into that 2.5 ft tall stack of concrete parking lot barriers cleverly located in what looked like an otherwise empty parking space...

Well...I looked at a bunch of differant cars.....I paid 31k for this one. It comes with 4 year 50k bumper to bumper / 50k maintenace warranty. Which means of it break in that 50k...its fixed...but also...I get oil changes...checks...inspection s....any maintenace that needs done is free up to 50k...and for 1900.00 I can extend that to 100k.

Nice! If you put a stock vette suspension up against a stock BMW suspension, the BMW wins every time. Reason is shorter wheel base and lighter car.
I've never driven a vette with an upgraded suspension, but I had the sports suspension and I can get a guy on this BBS that will vouch that he and I hit a 25 mph cloverleaf on ramp at 70 mph. :D (at the peak of the curve, I accelerated all the way through until my passenger was forced to grab the "Oh Sh&#" handle..."Mission Accomplished")

My trans-am is well over 130,000 without any repairs I would consider "major"... The 3 worst mechanical parts I've had go bad were a leaky diff (subject of a recall and repaired under warranty), a power window motor that quit (common problem with camaro and firebird but not too expensive to fix) and a water pump that started leaking at 132,000 miles. None of those repairs were too expensive. For electrics, I had an ABS module go out that was replaced under warranty, a traction control module that got killed by a high pressure car wash (not under warranty) and the radio has a known defect that makes the display unreadable sometimes. The most expensive of those to fix was the traction control module but I saved a few hundred by finding the part myself. A dealer or GM sponsored mechanic must do the part install because it requires a computer reset by their proprietary computer gadget, but that's not unique to GM.
Not bad for 10 years of owning a car that consumer reports consistently called a reliability nightmare... My only problem with the car right now is that it won't die so I have no excuse to replace it other than putting a car seat in the back makes the front passenger seat unusable, but the resale price is maybe $6000 so replacing it with ANY other car is essentially paying tens of thousands of dollars for a larger back seat. Heck, the car still gives me 18mpg around town and 28mpg on the highway so it's not even all that bad of a gas hog.
I hope you have good luck with your beemer :) They sure are nice cars and like I said, a nice 3-series has been super high on my list of cars I might buy if my firebird ever dies. I just think that considering the kid and the fact that I want more power than the 328i offers, I'd have to spend an awful lot of money to get a BMW with the interior room and power of the G8 so I'll just have to make do with another pontiac that will hopefully also last at least 10 years and 130k+ miles.
Of course, my firebird has to die first and it's not showing any signs of that.

Bavarian auto/car... good choice my friend :)

New or Used?
Nice car BTW. I've loved BMWs ever since my wife and I rented a 318i for our 1st Wedding anniversary in 1996. That little thing was quick and fun!

I've met many people with over 250k on that M54 engine that RedTop has. Very few people with a pontiac engine with over 200k on them. Just my experience.

Well...used technically. ALthough its an 08' it had 8k miles on it. Carfax was perfect and the car itself has absolutley no dings or anything. It's prestine.

The LS1 is a different animal... Lots of vette drivers report over 200k on the LS1.
Fewer camaro and firebirds get to 200k because the drivers tend to be tards and abuse the engine by driving stupidly, not maintaining it properly, or simply crashing the car. In my experience, vette and BMW drivers tend to be just a tad more careful about taking care of their cars.
But the LS1 motor... Amazing that such a good engine could come out of GM.

I can't comment on the LS1 as I don't know its history. The BMW straight 6, in particular the M54 model, is legendary.
Can't say too much for the S54 though! :lol
The S54 used to be known as the Engine of Damocles because of the tendency of early production M3s to explode spectacularly at elevated engine speeds. BMW attempted to blame vehicle owners for the failures early on but eventually started replacing rod bearings, oil pumps, and whole engines under warranty.[citation needed] This fault was attributed to a problem with the connecting rod bottom-end bearing shells that were supplied to BMW by a third party that did not meet BMW's specifications.[citation needed]. This problem was fully corrected by BMW on engines produced after 06/2003. A recall was done to retrofit all previously produced engines with the proper bearing shells.

Kids....thats the differance.
I had an SUV. Midsize one. It was a great car and to be honest I havent had one lick of trouble with it. It was a Mazda Tribute loaded up and was really a good vehicle. But , last year my wife and I bought her a new mini van. We have grandkids and all. We take trips to Iowa 2 to 3 times a year as well and have dogs. So , the mini van was a good purchase and it's what she wanted.
Since we have that now , I decided I wanted to get back in a car. I looked at alot of em. But , and this is no dig and US cars , there wasn't hardly anything that I really liked the looks of that got decent mileage. The Tribute did pretty good but I figured I could get better with something else. So I started looking at nissans , toyotas , mazdas. There were a couple I liked ok. My wife and I decided we would like some luxury but with some sport for me. Acura , and those types looked pretty appealing. Then , I just thought what the heak. I wonder what BMW's are going for. I went and looked at them at a local BMW dealer and since I liked the looks anyway I figured what the heak. I spent 3 months reseaching differant models and stuff.
This 328i by all accounts from people I have talked to gets over 30 on the highway without dogging it. It performs so nicely. It will be expensive to fix. I'll give ya that. But with the way they have the current warranties set up that will be a while. I only had 63 k on my 4.5 year old Tribute. So , I don't for see putting all that many more miles on this. PLUS I wont be taking it on 3 or 4 2k round trips to Iowa. lol
ANother thing I find are simple things that go along way. On this Bimmer when you unlock the doors little lights pop on to alluminate the door handles. Heated mirrors...rain sensing wipers....Easy to reach controls....simple things that go along way. Yet on US cars they are definate upgrades. Yes you pay more for the BMW.....But there are deals to be had on them. They are very safe.
So , I get Luxury for the wife when I take her to her favorite Mexican place...and sport for me to get there fast as I want to. :lol
And Hey....Pontiac is a fine car...had 2 of em. Just now , that I am older...no kids at home...just the wife and I and I drive 25 miles one way to woprk a day and most of it is highway....just wanted gas mileage...and the bells and whistles to go with it.

I have a 1985 bmw 325e, I am currently working to get it back on the road. The original price tag was in the car when we got it, a whopping 35k in 1985 :O :O . I just have to get the right side lights working again and fix the callipers and it will be good to go. :aok
Oh and btw I like audi's best ride i have ever driven, and the A6 model will get from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds or so.

That's hard to believe (Price) but perhaps they *did* get more back then. My 2001 BMW 330ci was $34,000 MSRP (although I didn't pay that)

I had always thought BMW's were expensive (not that they aren't) , but they aren't out of range of most anymore.

And they are reliable Bavarian engineered smooth rides :)

Yassir .. BMW's are nice.
Local Mercedes guy says if you like twisties, go BMW ..if you like to cruise, Mercedes it.
Personally .. I don't need or want a 4-door.
Been there, done that .. I don't get asked for airport runs anymore,
..no one wants to borrow the vehicle to help move, and so on and so on :)
I lak dat.
The C-5 Vette is a world beater.
Kinda cracks me up when people comment outta the blue here an there when they see the car.
Common comment is it must have cost a fortune .. LOL
.. the other I get asked a lot is what mileage it gets.
I've had people tell me I'm a liar ..they dont beleive it.
-shrug-
I could take video's, pictures, whatever ..I guess I am just a bit beyond carin what others think.
Guy in our local club drove his 2003 Z06 (500+hp..11 sec car, *not* stock) to the Z06 fest just recently.
1500 miles there an back, averaging just under 30mpg on the freeway all the way there. He cruises at 80.
Mine gets a hair over 30mph at 70. The computer says I get about 24mpg average around town (when I bother to check)
It's a Z-51, so the ride is a bit harsh ..really follows the road and if it's bumpy, it's bumpy :)
However . . if I kick it out in back into a corner, let off a bit into the apex, then roll on the gas comin out ..
..it's so nuetral the throttle controls understeer, oversteer, that I felt completely at home at insane speeds in some 25mph posted twisties awhile ago :)
I have a date with a track day as soon as I can set it up financially .. the club gets together with the exotics now an then and has a bit of fun at a local race track (Firebird or PIR).
Frankly .. it was an experiment. I didn't know if wife and I would like a Vette.
I am fallin in love with it. It does so many things amazingly well.
Not the least of which is.. I can wear my hat without bumpin into anything, heck even my helmet when I take it out to race.
-evil grin-
..and I've run against a few different BMW's at the drags.
I haven't lost to one yet.
The lil M3 was close tho.
I expect it will be the same at the roundy-round track.
They're quick compared to 90 percent of the cars out there.
Just not in the same league as a Z-51 C-5, much less the Z06.

Nice ride!
At least someone is having fun. I am still stuck in a 99 caravan and probably will be for awhile

Niiiiiiice.'
Cant wait till I have the money to dump my Explorer for one.

I had a C5 for a couple years....adored it. It was like taking a vacation everytime I drove it. This BMW is quite a ride tho. Fast as the Vette? Nope....But it handles better. It's quick...smooth...and a fun ride. And the gas mileage is really nice. My C5 got great mileage as well. Hard to beat Vettes for most things sporty...but this BMW....Well...it aint far off.
