I was in another thread, and BnZ said this which makes sense. Maybe, after this, we'll see less people crying and whining.
I have quite the opposite opinion.
I believe if you shoot down something, you should see "Spit16 destroyed #2" or the like, and "You have been shot down"
It might make it more about the airplanes and the history and less about the egos and discourage grown men from p.m.ing each other to pursefight and otherwise act like ill-bred 8 year olds.
-
I dont think its "great idea". I like to know who I kill and who killed me, I dont want "faceless" fights like WW2OL for example. And I dont care about whiners.
-
Yea, but it would be nice to calm down some egos on the game.

Well, here we must agree to disagree. You desire to know "who" along with the "what" and "how"-the important parts-are the shadow of the egoism and inanity that to a certain degree has made AH culture resemble any other game being played by ebonics-spewing wigger 12 year-olds instead of some sort of "Knights of the Air" ethos.
There is a practical aspect too, sometimes you damage several and "You shot down___" comes out of the blue...well, I'd rather know WHAT I shot down than who.

*cough* SkyRock *cough* :)
I'd like to see who I shot down so I can PM them "PWN LIL N00B!! GO BACK TO BF1942! DWEEB ULTRA N00B!!" :lol ;)

I'm against this. Every once in a while there are absolutely brilliant fights that occur. A lot of the people who are flying at the time won't think to hit Alt + R. So when the fight is finished and the dust clears, obviously one of the two pilots will want to salute the other and tell them what a great fight it was.
With this feature implemented that would no longer be possible unless you open the film to get the pilot's name. And I don't know of too many people who would want to spend an extra 2 minutes just to salute another pilot.
-
I like to know who the next victim I will have to chase down and smear his name in the mud for running :D
-
I think it takes away from the game.
I think we should NOT know who shot who down. No more "name in lights".
-
I doubt that will even happen. If it did, there would be a lot of disappointed players. That's the last thing HTC wants.

It would most likely take a large chunk of re-coding, but perhaps after a kill (or death) you just type .s and it would send a salute to the other person without you having to include the PlayerID.
In general, I'm kind of against the system telling you who shot down whom and the whole name-in-lights thing. But, I don't see the benefit of HTC spending the man-hours to fix what really isn't broken. I personally have enough self-control to not get into all the crap-flinging that is so rampant in the game.

Keep the you killed/You were killed by messages. Dump the name in lights stuff for all I care. It is the fight I am after, not the stats. :aok

I dont like the thought of not knowing who im picking :D

Knowing who one was just fighting is a big community building aspect of the game in the open arena environment. Most people only see the negative side when urinating matches break out on open channels. For every one of those incidents, how many other fights took place where the players involved were introduced and formed an opinion of their opponents based on their fight.
There are players I encounter where I know exactly who they are by name within seconds of engaging them. That comes with repeatedly fighting them and knowing who I was engaged with. The ego thing is negative side effect, but the overall effects of the way the game is, is good for AH as a whole. That's not to say that open channels don't make a bad impression on new commers, but I think the effects of futher isolating players from personal contact with opponents should be considered.

I like to know who I was fighting, and want them to know as well. I try my best to not complain over 200 when something rubs me the wrong way (I am human, and have slipped, but I'm certainly not a known loudmouth), and I very rarely get complaints myself.
If your experience is different... Well...
-
Bad idea, I wana know who im fighting or who I killed/ was killed by.
-
Don't care for it myself, I like to know who I just shot down or who got me, particularly after a good brawl. Had a nice little fight with Chanz last night, I came out on the upper end that particular time but I can tell next time it could go the other way.
When it was all done we exchanged a couple <S>'s and congradulated each other on a good fight. To me that is one of the strong points of the game, meeting and getting to know the people who put of a good and entertaining fight when you run into them. Many of my current friends and even some squaddies are people who used to club me like a baby seal whenever I ran into them. It's an important part of community building IMHO.
-
Not sure. It would take something away from the game I think. Ive gotten used to the 'need you over here to kill xxxx' calls.
-
To be honest, the "name in lights" bit is really fun. It's fun to see who's having a good fighting day, plus those people that land kills in a 40 ENY aircraft are always impressive.
-
Maybe make it an option. Honestly, I can't tell you who I shot down last or who shot me down last.
-
im not sure what my opinon is. I would like to know who i killed/who killed me, but also, i hate it when people have such an ego thing they start pming you because you dont have 200 tuned and the pm's say "hotard, get some skills, noob" just my opinon.

How about this, you get the option of them seeing your name when you/they die? Would be nice. And would be a way to make those people with Ego's even more mad, cuz they have no clue who HO'd/Killed them :P :D
If it really doesn't matter to you, keep em on.

Couldn't have put it any more spartan than this. x2
