Title: Now MCCain really is ahead in the only poll that is going to matter
Post by: DREDIOCK on September 12, 2008, 03:25:24 PM

Congratulations to the McCain supporters...for the time being anyway

McCain has pulled ahead in the electoral polls.
He was down by 40+ at one point last week

question is.
Can he keep and expand the lead.

Sorry to say that won't happen here. The machine makes sure the appropriate people get elected each time, regardless of corruption, fraud, incompetence, record, mob ties, being in a coma (see Todd Stroger's Daddy)... Obama has served the machine well and he will be rewarded.

You call it the machine there?
We call it "The Blob" here.
Because all it does is keep growing and consuming.

I think the debates could sew it up. If McCain and Palin perform well it's all over but the crying.

It's also called the "combine" here which includes the state republicans and more fully represents the bipartisan corruption in the state. The Daley machine is dominant, and remains one of the old school political machines with reach outside the state borders, but the combine works to share the pork and the prison terms.

One concern at the state level is that we have an aggressive federal prosecutor named Patrick Fitzgerald that has been locking them up left and right (pun intended). Both candidates have stated they would not replace or reassign him, but there is at least some concern that Obama might owe a few too many favors to follow through.

Quote
Soon after becoming U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois, Fitzgerald began an investigation of political appointees of Republican Illinois Governor George Ryan, who were suspected of accepting bribes to give licenses to unqualified truck drivers. Fitzgerald soon expanded this investigation, uncovering a network of political bribery and gift-giving, and leading to more than 60 indictments. Ryan, who did not seek re-election in 2002, was indicted in December 2003. At the conclusion of the trial, in April 2006, Ryan was found guilty on all eighteen counts against him. Ryan's co-defendant, Chicago businessman Larry Warner, 67, was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, fraud, attempted extortion, and money laundering. The two were sentenced on 6 September 2006: Ryan received a sentence of six and one half years, and Warner received a sentence of three years, five months.[7]

Against criticism that these cases were based on circumstantial evidence, Fitzgerald responded: "People now know that if you're part of a corrupt conduct, where one hand is taking care of the other and contracts are going to people, you don't have to say the word 'bribe' out loud.... And I think people need to understand we won't be afraid to take strong circumstantial cases into court."[8]

On July 18, 2005, Fitzgerald's office indicted a number of top aides to Democrat Richard M. Daley, the mayor of Chicago, on charges of mail fraud, alleging numerous instances of corruption in hiring practices at City Hall. Fitzgerald is also investigating the administration of current Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. An investigation announced on December 30, 2005 will review contracts between the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and vendors who signed leases to occupy the recently remodeled Illinois Tollway oases. Fitzgerald's office is investigating possible conflicts of interest between these vendors and one of Blagojevich's top fundraisers, Antoin Rezko.

In March 2006, former Chicago City Clerk James Laski pled guilty to pocketing nearly $50,000 in bribes for steering city business to two trucking companies. Thus far Laski is the highest-ranking Chicago official and Daley administration employee brought down by Fitzgerald's office in conjunction with the Hired Truck Program scandal.

U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald chose not to run for reelection in 2004, leaving Patrick Fitzgerald without a congressional patron. In the summer of 2005, there were rumors that he would not be reappointed to a second four-year term in retaliation for his conduct in investigations into corruption in Illinois and Chicago government, as well as for his investigation of the Plame scandal.[9] As of May 15, 2007, those "rumors" had not been realized. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Fitzgerald

Denver is just a fraction of the Denver metro area. Close to 30 cities in the metro area iirc.

Maybe so....

The Democrats could have had this election in the bag easily if they could just put forth a decent candidate.

Drive through some of those neighborhoods that you may naturally avoid.  I lived and taught public school in The Springs for a few years.  1 in 3 of my students was Hispanic and 1 in 5 were black.

We've gotten one here too.

Matter of fact I have a brother in law who is about to start serving two years two little for bribing public officials. (Told the story about this one a while back but this guy has had it comming for a long LONG time)

One of the officials that was involved. Whom I also know personally is about to start serving alot more then that.
Seems when he got caught and the gravy train stopped rolling and he went to jail. His wife decided she wanted a divorce.
So what did he do?
He proved just how much of a piece of watermelon i always knew he was too by trying to hire a hit man (from jail) to bump his wife off.
Problem is. The hit man he tried to hire (from jail) was a government plant.

Now instead of sitting all cozy in the Fed prison for the white collar crime. H'ell be getting to hang out with some good ol boys by the name of Bubba and Jose
Bye bye Richie Kaplan. Sucks to be you.

Problem is with these prosecutors. is they never seem to go after many of the BIG boys.
Oh sure they nab one here and there just to make it look good.
But its really pretty rare.

Rumor has it our guy is going to be running against our wannabe emperor governor next election.

They didnt dig him up, they found a really bright kid from Hawaii and dressed him in Karls old suit.

Sometimes I wonder if Obama knows whats truly going on......

Fitzgerald goes after the big boys. He got the previous Republican Governor, and our current Democratic gov. is, for all intents and purposes known, I believe, as "Person of Interest A." That's why he scares so many politicans in the state from both parties. Fitzgerald is like Elliott Ness, to use a traditional Chicago analogy. They just got Rezko, the big campaign finance guy who aside from his (disturbing but admittedly fairly limited) Obama link is well tied into both Parties. One might assume Fitzgerald will get the current governor Blagovitch but no indictment yet. Maybe just not enough direct evidence, though his wife has had some unusual financial real estate dealings with Rezko and that may be how he insulated himself.

Daley is just too dammed good at it. We've seen probably a half dozen senior Chicago officials go down from various investigations in recent years but never him. He's always "shocked" and "outraged" and "heartfelt" about such a loss of trust...yada yada yada. Daley is insulated probably because he likes power more than wealth. His underlings keep him in power and field the patronage armies that give the machine strength and in return get the kick back deals from the contractors and give the deals to the contractors from all the pork that they get from the state and the federal govt. But they tend to be the ones accepting the envelopes in the restaurant booths and there is never a paper trail linking the end result of the illegal activity (raw political power) to the mayor.

For a real insight into how the Daley machine sausage is made a good site is the Second City Cop blog. Daley is screwing over the CPD big time and there is as much hate for him there as you can find anywhere. http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/

Of course, according to Daley there is no machine... that's crazy talk! http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_st/2008/09/daley-scoffs-at.html

It's a shame isn't it? Ron Paul is the only one with a bead on what's going on with USA. Everyone else are just riding the fast train, to wherever it's going, and don't care where it's going as long as they got a first class ticket.
