Title: Aerial phosphorus bombs

I picked up a DVD set called "confidential films of WW2" at a truck stop..what the heck, got it for under $10
Anywho...it's a collection of training films and mission report films,worth the money.

Anyway, there are a few segments about bombing raids on rabaul and airfields around there...and they mention (and show) Aerial Phosphorous bombs set off by Zeros.  I'm assuming this is an anti-aircraft measure...but I've never heard of it before.

     Think the LW may have tried it as well.  I know they tried using time fused bombs to
try to destroy 8th AF bombers.  It didn't work very well though.

I've read of the use of timed aerial bombs in the pacific. If I recall correctly they were set to either go off in the middle of or above and ahead of the bomber formations, making them fly through the contrails left hoping one would collide with the burning phosphorous. 

I don't remember them being terribly effective.

I have seen a picture of one going off, I think it is in the Time-Life WW2 series.
As far as I recall, they didn't score a kill with those.
