Title: Old threads
Post by: Banshee7 on September 16, 2008, 03:41:08 PM
While reading an old thread that had been reincarnated then locked...something was pointed out to me by another BBS member.  He/She suggested that old thread should be locked immediately.  So, my wish is that when threads go inactive for more than a set amount of time (a few days..a week?) they should automatically be locked.

Immediately is a bit soon but a reasonable amount of time after the last post would be good. Say a month or so. If a thread goes that long without a reply it's pretty much done.

Not horrible. For one, it's a lot better than wishing for the B-29.

I don't support this idea. Otherwise searching has no effect causing more and more threads to be started since the old ones (no matter how many there are) have all been locked.

But usually when people use the search function they are usually looking for answers, not necessarily wanting to reply.  When a thread is locked (not the "nothing to see here, move along" type lock) you are still able to view the threads.

Yet since the thread is locked you would have to start an entirely new thread to resubmit a wish for that aircraft, tank, or ship. We're trying to save bandwidth, not waste it.

I don't see why it is a bad wish.
