Post by: Swoop on January 23, 2001, 12:34:00 PM
j/king but here goes:

There was I, happily RTBing after a 5 kill sortie (3 of which were Fscott in his Runstang   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)) when an SMS message suddenly beeps into my phone.......I read it......I answer it......I press SEND, look up, fly into mountain.  "Bollocks"  says I.

You may not know it, but you've just made a good suggestion for  the stats page...over half my deaths have been caused by Terra Firma, and I would like to see that added to the stats page please... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

There I was, flying med-alt above french countryside.. when all of the sudden I see a lone FW-190 below me flying level. Coming from the sun, I place myself to his low 6 and begin approaching him in his blind spot..

Just as I get in firing range, the 190 starts to flip-flop, moves in a weird angle for about half a mile (during which time I try to follow him) and all of the sudden warps behind me, guns blazing fire and smoke.

Obviously the darn kraut had been using his F3 external view to spot my attack!

I see plenty of tracers coming towards me, but I dont worry since they seem to overshoot me with a good distance and I start moving to a better position. About 10 seconds later, just as I'm sure I'll have him on a dish after hard vertical manouvering I start hearing pings and my plane obliterates into pieces even though the con is not even pointing to my direction.

I bail out to the ground, and to my disappointment find there - No, not french young resistance girls, but SHEEP.. SHEEP as far as I can see. I push the tower button in disgust and sigh as I'm yanked back to the tower, missing what could have been potentionally the adventure of my life.

Life may have been tough back in WW2, but if you look it the right way, it sure had some advantages also  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Losing anyones life however is nothing to be laughed about of course. I myself lost a relative flying deep over russian territory. War is hell. Game is fun. But still, it can never come close to real life experiences.

Model French resistance girls to the ground!!!

I think they did have the same difficulties.. they just weren't as able to come here and complain about them afterwards (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

 MrSid,
You better read up on the principles of on-line gaming and especially lag issues.

What you see on your front end (FE) does not necessarily correspond to the situation the other guys sees on his front end. So if the other guy is shooting, you should trust that he is aiming at you and that he started shooting 2 seconds ago, even if it looks like he is pointing in a different direction.

Do not be surprised if in 3 seconds your front end gets a fatal damage update packet. That would happen if his or your connection is bad.
His warpy flying should have been the first indication that that was the case!

If you see his tracers, it means that you should have started evading two seconds before it looked that he may open fire in two seconds (for bullet flight time on his FE or lag delay for your FE, your pick), hence four seconds ago!
If you evade 2 seconds before he starts shooting, he will see your plane move out of the way of bullets just when they are ready to strike it. At that exact moment you may be  0.5-1 second from seing him shoot yet!

miko

oh man

I would love to see ground vs aircraft stats.

then you could see which planes auger in the most and which vehicles plummet off of cliffs to their doom  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

all aircraft would have negative k/d ratio if it was added im sure.

My girlfriend has a stange habit for calling me on my mobile in worse possible moments...

Just as I line up on target in Ju 88 or otherwise boring sortie is interupted by attacking con. Bit difficult to discuss intelligently about the day's events when your plane is getting shot to pieces!

Here's another-

I was flying a goon to a base, during the first few days I'd begun to play the game.  I was lining up at mid alt getting ready to dive to the deck and try a faster run to the objective.  I spot this F4U behind me coming in quick, and begin to get evasive-  I even managed pretty good with all kinds of whacked out maneuvers (the height helped) and the next thing I know... DING DONG doorbell rings.  What do you do?  DING DONG... I holler out "I'm coming" then I set the goon on a dive with the attitude auto and run like hell to answer the door.  Course 20 seconds later I'm toasted by mister F4U.

Doorbells can be hazardous to the mission too, it seems.  That's a little too real, IMHO.

Jay.
