Title: Skuzzy?
Post by: Masherbrum on September 18, 2008, 06:23:49 PM
Would it be possible to sticky a "Builder's FAQ" type thread?   We could all provide insight and post deals on various sites we happen to come across.   I know having something like this would have been a wee bit better than creating post after post of purchases, needs, etc.

I realize I'll probably get flamed for it, but I figure why not make it easier for folks going forward?   Just a spur of the moment idea I had.

The way technology changes that 'sticky' would exceed 100 pages in less time then it takes to HO a goon.

Might be interesting to watch the progression over a period of time though on "whats hot" at the moment.

I haven't seen tomshardware endorse Vista anywhere in the hardware sections so I think it's a pretty good place to look.

[H]ardOcp then again is full of fanbois and I'd steer away from it. I'm beginning to think they're more [H]ardHeaded than anything else.

tomshardware credibility dissapeared a long long time ago!

It's almost impossible to find an unbiased review site,

Better to let old posts die. As new technology keeps popping up, looking through a 5-page thread you'd get REALLY bad and out of date info for the first 4.5 pages.

Better to segregate the different individual "is this a good system" posts, and fix the search function. Seems not to always return relevant posts, or find posts that match it.

Actually I was just looking at Bustr's new tools thread.
And was thinking
A "Software & Utilities" Sticky woundt be a bad idea though

I didn't intend on it being a 100 page thread.   Just a good foundation that could be updated with the technology.   If someone needed to know what would work, they'd one stop shop, so to speak.

IMHO think it could be a VERY GOOD thing but it would constantly need attention from someone!

things are changin soooo fast!

So who would want to keep it going?

Skuzzy has plenty to do as it is...............

I don't think keeping it going will be much of an issue.
Like you said things are changing fast, you can bet something new will be posted about every day or two without fear of losing anything.
It would also make it easier for skuzzy to put forth his opinion on new stuff in one handy thread.

We could police it ourselves.

Actually dropped in looking for this very information from an AH II perspective. I think its a great idea and if I had to read it backwards to get the most current information that that shouldn't be a problem I would think.

I tried Pongo.   I think it's a shame that a simple thread stating "A Foundation for an AH2 Rig" would be a boon for this Company.   I knew some would say "Well, it's difficult to keep up."    No it isn't.   All folks need is a place to begin and ask questions in a thread they could start, given the basics.   Not everyone out there is computer literate.   I was just brainstorming and it got shot down.

Sure it does.. you want 30"? No extra charge for monitor but $2500 for shipping and packaging costs. Good deal huh?  :D

No seriously I think someone in the community could build optimal AH boxes and sell them for around $800-$1000 a piece. Surely there are hardware vendors amongst us.

I'm more than willing to help you with this Skuz.   If I can take any burden off of you, let me know.   I'd be glad to pitch in and help.
