Title: Some Issues
Post by: Fencer51 on September 20, 2008, 10:38:59 PM
Three seperate issues..

Sometimes my 'esc' for the clipboard will call it up, and others it will not.  This can be in the same sortie and 10 secs apart.  Works one sec, not the next and it does not come back.

Also I tabbed out of the game (minimized) and could not get back in.

And I was in the hangar and the screen darkened and the game froze.  It did not go completely dark but it got like night in the hangar.

Fencer,
you using the HighRes textures?

I this evening had something similar happen, like your darkened hangar ( or lights turned off )

I updated the game today.and then logged in.....forgot to update the HighRes texture pack with this new update.......

I went and installed the new High Res pkg and rebooted PC...all was well

p.s.  the game would not alt tab out for me either, and my keyboard seemed to lock up before I updated the HighRes Textures.....

Hmm this is a clean install on a new CPU, I thought I installed HiRes.. I will do so again.  Thanks.

Also, just to make things simple, try it without the CH Manager loaded.  It is the only thing I can think of that would effect input from the keyboard.  I noticed DXDIAG reported you have two mice attached.  What's up with that?

I'm guessing he is using a CH Prothrottle that has a mini stick that can act as a mouse with the CH control manager.

Forgot about that.

I don't have the mini joystick thing enabled.

Ok I can duplicate some of this.

Hit Esc call up map.  Close it by hitting esc again.  Esc calls it back up just fine.

Now, I do a .sr, call it up with esc and its fine.  Hit "Close" on the .sr (left side) and the whole thing disappears and will not come back up when esc is hit.

Do another .sr and hit esc and it comes back up.  Rinse repeat same problem as above if I close it with left page close button.  As long as I have a left page showing the clipboard will return.  Roster E3A etc. Otherwise nothing.  I do not have "Automatically close clipboard" selected.

Also I flew for 30 mins a bit ago and was fine.  A 38 made a vulch pass on a field and my FE froze.  I am going to remove all custom sounds and see if there is a problem.  I had copied that folder over from my previous install (which was updated to 2.13)

Thanks for taking a look at this Skuzzy/Del.

did your darkened screen problem go away?  the High Res update fixed this particular problem for me.....

I went back and enabled my firewall to allow CHManager to connect both the internet and local ( Local meaning my PC only, I had turned it off for internet access )...after I did this I no longer had problems with the keyboard or ESC  working.......just how it fixed itself for me.........

Sorta.

I was playing COD4 and then AH2.  When I first started AH2 the screen was dark, so I got out and rebooted.  No problem since with that.

I will try the CHManager thing.

Just flew for 30 minutes.

1 Air to Air Sortie turned film off in flight

1 Tank Sortie turned film off in flight

1 Bomber sortie left film on

Landed the bombers, the save film popup appeared and the game hung up.  Background was a green mountain upper half and a blue (like the water) lower half.

I was able to get the mapboard to work.  I kept playing with it, then I went in and cleared the clipboard key and reset it to esc.  Then the map went realllllly small in the middle of the screen, I enlarged it and it worked fine from then on.  I also enabled and disabled the "auto close" feature as well in there...

Did you re-install the dual core patch? A new version is out, instead of the one that is posted in the Hardware thread.

I used the Microsoft patch.  :huh :)

I didn't know Microsoft had a dual core optimizer... are you sure?

Del ole buddy I am sure of NOTHING  :rofl

From Skuzzy's post on it..

Quote
1) (for AMD CPUs) Check to see if the mandatory Windows XP Hotfix Patch: KB896256 (NOT automatically downloaded with Windows Update) and the AMD CPU drivers are installed.  You do this by going to the "Add/Remove Programs" ICON in the Control Panel and review the list of installed software.
If the patches are not listed as being installed, then download KB896256 XP patch , AMD CPU Drivers and install them. (for AMD Dual Core Optimizer info read Note 2)

Note 1: Only install the AMD Driver if you have an AMD CPU.
Note 2: The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer was AMD's answer to Microsoft's Multi-Core fix.  AMD released their Optimizer to give the public (with AMD dual core CPUs) a way to properly utilize both cores. If you install the AMD Optimizer and it works without problems, then you would NOT have to install the the WinXP hotfix.
On BSOD's (Blue Screens of Death).... If you own a Clevo D900K (A.K.A. Sager 9750, Alienware Aurora m7700, etc) notebook, DO NOT install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer as it is incompatible. So if you experience BSODs (on any computer) after the AMD Optimizer is installed, then go into Safe Mode and uninstall it. You will still have optimized dual core as long as you do the rest of the guide.

2) From the Windows desktop go to Start->Run. Type REGEDIT and press <ENTER>.  The registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager should have a key named Throttle there, if not make it by right clicking, point at New->Key... name it Throttle.

3) (Still in registry) Inside Throttle key: should be a DWORD called PerfEnablePackageIdle with the value of 1. If it is not there, right click, point to New->DWORD... name it PerfEnablePackageIdle.
[/i]*** Note: You should type 1 in the Value data box to enable the performance state policy behavior (increases performance) at the expense of some battery life, if you are running a battery powered computer.[/i]

4) Quit Registry.

5) Now let's review your boot.ini to make sure that the command /usepmtimer is there.  Using your mouse, right-click on My Computer go to Properties, click on the ADVANCE tab, then under Startup and Recovery click on Settings, then click on EDIT....make sure your boot.ini has the /usepmtimer in there (located in the last line), if NOT then just copy and paste /usepmtimer in there.

Note: If you have an AMD dual core and installed the AMD drivers, the /usepmtimer would be inserted into your boot.ini for you.
Note: The /usepmtimer in the BOOT.ini is a "switch" that forces the system to use a steady clock in place of the CPU frequency... for certain timing functions. Thats as basic as you can explain it.

6)Go to File and then Save (to save the changes to your BOOT.ini).

Restart your computer.

The AMD optimizer patch does not come from Microsoft and must be installed if you want to try and run the bame without running in it in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode.  Without that patch, and not running the game in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode, the game will NOT run corectly and the manifestations of problems is without end.

 :huh

Ok so I need to do all three things.. install the hot fix from Windows, install new drivers (both done) and then install the AMD dual core optimizer..  ok not a problem.  :aok
