Title: RC combat, Dixie Nationals
Post by: helbent on September 22, 2008, 09:50:05 AM
For anyone interested in RC flying/combat.  The Dixie Nationals to be held Nov 1st and 2nd at Mac Hodges Field, 428 Neil Hodges Rd. Andersonville, Ga.  Can google it for distances or directions.

Also, 5 miles N of the RC field is the Andersonville National Historic Site.  A civil war prison camp that may be worth a visit.  The movie Andersonville obviously was about the deplorable situation there.

I am thinking of attending, trying to get my brother interested.

Just putting in a note here Helbent.  When I was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, my platoon actually got to be extras in that movie when it was filmed on location in Andersonville.  Was a lot of fun and we got to take a few goodies with us (props like tin coffee mugs, ect.)

I remember we had camped out there like 2 or 3 days (a lot of Civil War re-enactors did as well.)  Well, one night the guy that played Biff in the Back to the Future movies came out to talk to the GI's from Benning.  He plays Guitar (which I didnt know.)  Anyway, he was cutting up, joking with us and played us a song.  It was the funniest thing.  It was called "I know Michael J. Fox."  I can still hear him singing it.  Great guy!  Made us laugh our arses off.

That was a great memory.  I still remember all the GI's talking smack to the Asst Director and the Grips about every one of them having Goatee's.  Well the Asst Dir nailed us and said, well I see you Ft Benning boys have cornered the market on Flannel.  I looked around and every single one of us (like 25 or 30) had on Flannel No Fear style shirts.  lol
