I'll open the design bidding with a slight variation from BoB06 patch:
Better too soon than too late, eh :uhoh
-
I like it! Just enough variation to set it apart, but you can still tell it's like the older brother patch from 2006 :)
-
Some color variations from the above idea:
Version 2:
Version 3:
-
Not bad :salute
-
2 and 3 are quite nice if I do say so myself, Blauk :aok
-
<Looks in>
Whistles innocently :)
-
Version 2
-
Version 3.
-
version 2
-
Change the German silhouette to an He 111. :rofl
-
version 3
-
I like them all, and #3 has my current vote, but I wonder if it's too complex to show up on a patch properly. There's a lot of detail, which has a habit of disappearing in patch form.
-
I like ver. #2 because the colors wouldn't merge when stitched. Graphically this one has a better flow.
ver. #3 has the blue ocean touching the RAF symbol. There is a bit of white around the RAF symbol but I do not know if it would transition well.
-
Just to check out how the details etc come out, here is what we got in BoB 2006:

Omfg it's an He 111. :rofl I suggested that without knowledge of what the 06 patch looked like. :noid
-
Version 2
-
:aok
Agreed
-
Version 3
-
I really like number 2. Good, strong colors.
-
The light blue in 1 is too vibrant. More befitting an astronaut or race car driver. Think patches tied to WWII combat should stick to baser colors IMHO. It is nice to look at though.
Prefer 3 over 2- slightly. What's the chances of a proof of each when the time comes.
-
version #1
:aok
-
Version 2 looks really nice, good work.
-
Version #3 :aok :aok :aok :aok :rock :rock :rock
-
Version 3:

Version 3, I like its colors the best :aok
-
Version 2 here :aok
-
..just another color variation.

oooooooo ahhhhhhhh...
-
..just another color variation.
I like, very nice work.
-
If you're going to have black plane sihouettes then you need a goodly amount of light color or white space to make the badge "pop". I actually like the first version with the blue border, but version #2 would get my vote as well. Version #3 is just too dark.
-
Looks cool.
-
Now that I'm back from vacation in Britain, it's time for me to move forward with the BoB patch.
The ones posted are wonderful. I thought I'd throw one in the mix only because it's a design I've had in mind for a while, but I only recently learned Gimp well enough to render it.
Any comments?
-
There must be a way to represent the pride and dignity of the German nation during a time of war that doesn't reflect the horrific toll on humanity this particular rendition of the swastika represents.
-
Yep, gotta lose the Swastika. Use the fuselage marking off a 109 maybe?
-
Yep, gotta lose the Swastika. Use the fuselage marking off a 109 maybe?
Actually, we don't have to. It is a privately produced patch. Also, it's not a swastika -- it's a part of one.
-
Brooke i would agree with Dan and Roc ,
Could cause a lot grief with the swastika in it . Even tho i belive in what history was and it should be remembered for the way it was and not the PC bunch way of thinking , but to wear it in public over here would just be asking for trouble .
sorry
But looks good and different from the other 2 Bob patches
-
It can not be worn in Europe. It's a law in some countries.

-
OK, how about this? (Different flag.)
-
i think the iron cross would look beter
-
Iron Cross would be better in the long run. Black ,white with a red background. Or half an Iron Cross.
-
Just a comment. The sword, while a battle implement, seems to me to suggest nothing about the airwar of the BoB. BoB was the quintesential air battle of WWII, no ground conflicts, strictly air force pitted against air force. If any patch should show some aircarft in it, this is the one IMO.
-
Why not the roundel on one side and the maltese cross on the other? Simple, but is plenty of information...
-
I think folks have a feel for the shield design. Rather than me going through more work on it, it's probably best at this stage to see if folks prefer the BlauK design. If so, no need to do the additional work.
So, let's hear opinions -- which should we go with: Blauk design, or more work on the shield design?
If it's the Blauk design, which one do people prefer?
Me, I like #3 (or the variant on #3) as the colors are different. Most patches are predominantly red, white, and blue -- #3 is a nice change.
-
Replace the sword with a 2-bladed prop reminiscent of WWI biplane props. It divides the patch in half with more symbolism about the events taking place.
-
I have to say as a change of pace, I like the shield idea. The prop idea in the middle is pretty cool :aok I also think that the Swastika, while accurate, is a little much for polite display. Personally, I plan on getting a jacket and sewing these on :salute
-

My thoughts as well
-
OK. I'll rework it with a prop down the middle, and an iron cross on the right side. I'll do a version with the flag and a roundel. We'll see what you guys think.
I am also completely happy to go with Blauk's patch -- it is excellent.
I only put up one because I've been thinking of this shield idea for a while but only recently got the expertise to make a rendition of it.
One possibility is to use Blauk's as the BoB 2008 patch and the shield idea for BoB 2004, which was before I started doing patches and thus doesn't have a patch.

ROSCOROO!
TYVM for the Christmas patches. They were an unexpected joy and surprise. :aok :aok

Next version. This uses the top-wing roundels and camo colors from the Hurri I and Bf 109E-4.

I really like that alot Motley.
-
i think the iron cross would look beter
Dunno bout that... I like the new one and the one with the country Battle Flags better.
-
That is the best so far. It really stands out .
-
OK, folks -- time to vote. :aok Which do you want, A, B, C, or D?
A
(http://koti.welho.com/skukkone/kuvia/bob2008_patch_suggestion2.gif)
B
(http://koti.welho.com/skukkone/kuvia/bob2008_patch_suggestion3.gif)
C
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e28/grimsfx/bob08c.png)
or
D
(http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/misc/aces_high/BoBPatch-5.png)
-
1) vote for D
2)vote for C
-
B
-
Definitely
D
-
A or C
-
A or C
-
d or c
-
D or C
-
I still like B the most.
-
C or B
-
e
(http://lgmfilms.net/aceshigh/bob08e.png)
I changed the color of the picture C.
-
Arr can't decide!
Hmm, C or B (Unless E is an actual choice, in which case.... E or C) :aok
-
D
-
If I could edit my post from yesterday:
C or E
(trying to make it not confusing for the vote counter(s))
-
Brooke, D nailed it with a slight mod. Bring the Prob 45 Degrees top right to bottom left (Or opposite) to get rid of the definitive line. I really like the Shield idea, prop straight up and down throws it off though. Even up and down, I prefer the shield so D still gets my vote.
-

ROC, I tried the slanted prop (thinking the same as you), but it didn't look as good, so I went with vertical.
-
OK, I counted up votes, giving one to each choice when people said things like "A or C" (i.e., one to A and one to C) and giving two to a choice when people said things like "A" (i.e., two to A). (That way, people who gave two choices get the same voting power as people who gave one choice.)
The results:
A: 2
B: 6
C: 9
D: 9
So, a tie of C and D.
I will do the following. I will use one of them to make the BoB 2008 patch and, as BoB 2004 never had a patch, use the other for BoB 2004.
Time to vote: which one for BoB 2008? C or D?
C:
or
D:
(http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/misc/aces_high/BoBPatch-6r.png) or (http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/misc/aces_high/BoBPatch-6br.png) either style.
-
ROC, I tried the slanted prop (thinking the same as you), but it didn't look as good, so I went with vertical.
Actually, looking at it again, I guess they both look about equal to me, so I put both in above.
-
d
-
C.
-
C
-
I like D vertical but I think it needs a border around it.
-
C
-
I am torn on A, B, and C, with an E option - of the red and white center of A and the outer border colors of C
To chose from the selection, C. Any choice would be OK with me. Sorry, D is not one of my options.
-
And the winner for the BoB 2008 patch is . . . C!
I'll get on production of it right away, and it will take probably a few weeks to get it done.
-
Brooke,
I'll post a new larger pic here asap. The C-version has colors edited by Motley, and thus it is not exact and smooth in every spot.
I'll put his colors in the original vector based design.
-
Seems like the colors come pretty much from HTC web site :lol
Fixed some minor details, like text location at roundel and the blue stuff at country cut-off edges.
-
Many thanks. I have kicked off the process.
-
Here is the color/layout test image for the patch. Some of the text was made larger for better stiching, and they made the outside merrowed border dark brown instead of black. I like the dark brown (makes the black aircraft shapes stand out better), but I could have them change it to black if folks like the original black better.
Do people want the dark brown border, or change it to black?
-
think the brown looks better
-
IMHO, the brown border is too close to the green in contrast. It does not form a border around the green, but looks more like an unintentional color gradient from green to brown.
It was intentional, that the planes are like part of the outer border ;)
Keep it black.
Other observations:
- the outside border is quite thick compared to original. IMO, a thinner border works better. The recent Rangoon patch had exceptionally thin border, so it should be doable(?)
- In the original, the main title Battle of Britain" was bolded to make it stand out from other text. Now the other text is much too stuffed. "Aces High tm Scenario" and "November 2008" should be made smaller/thinner and they should be placed at equal distance from the outer border. November has proper distance, AcesHigh is too close to border.
-
I agree with all of Blauk's comments. Black, thin border is better.
"Battle of Brittain" does not stand out. My eye for the text went to the bottom left "Aces High Scenario" instead of the the specific subject of the patch.
-
Kinda has a camo look with the brown. (which is OK IMO)
From the comparison using the black border, maybe it (black) made the one plane tail look more like a blob on the border than part of the plane. <shrug> I think "Battle of Britain" should be more prominent, or at lease consistant with the other text.
Either way, I am pleased overall with this patch and it will make a great addition to my collection :D
-
I like the black better.
-
I'll ask them to redo it with a black border and see if they can reduce size of the lettering mentioned.
-
Here is the sewout. I think it looks good to go. Any objections?
-
looks great .... Guess I'd better get ready for postalotarooing.
-
Very Nice.
-
Looks great! :aok
-
Outstanding!
-
It has come out nicely. :aok
The only thing that catches my eye is the green color, which looks quite brown in the photo.
Brooke, can you confirm if it is only the photo? Is the green closer to original in real?
Another minor detail is the proportion or RAF roundel colors. It seems like red has eaten away some of white's space. Not a big issue though, IMHO.
-
:aok
-
It's Killer Brooke and all who worked on it! Many Thanks !! I'll send my donation as usual! :)
-
Not sure if there is a difference in the thread color on the aircraft or if it's just the lighting hitting different stitch directions, but they have a more 3D look to them than usual. Wether intentional or not- vary nice.
-

As best I can tell from the color code for the twill, that's the best match they can figure for the olive drab/greenish boundary. Sometimes, with the twill or threads, they don't have an exact match and have to go with whatever they feel is closest.
-
CC Brooke. Then that's the one to go with :aok
ps. just as a future reference for everyone/anyone, do they have a chart of available colors?
Maybe you could host/link such on your badge page?

They do have a chart, but I've found that what you see on the screen and what you see when you look at the finished patch can appear different, so there's still a bit of judgement in picking the best match. In the past, they've done a pretty good job of picking a good match. We'll see how they do on that background of the BoB 2008 patch.
http://stadriemblems.com/design2.html
-
That is a useful chart :aok
Can you confirm what background color they were using?
Their graphics version (the one with brown outline) looked like it had SC3311, which is pretty close to the original target. If the color could be picked from thread colors, I think 276 would be closest.
I am just guessing that the sample now has either "Olive drab" or SC351 as background... or then the photo might just give such impression.
IMHO, SC3311 or a bit more colorful SC336 might best follow the assigned colors.
But, in any case, I'll trust your opinion, since you can see the sample in real :)

The patches are in:
They look great. (BlauK, the outside ring is indeed a nice olive drab, not brown.)
Very nice design!
I'm off to bed, but this week, I'll post here and send out e-mail on how to request a patch, get Roo set up, etc.
-
Great job, again, Brooke! :aok

looks great ,

Hello, pilots who played in the scenario Battle of Britain 2008, which ran back in November, 2008. (If you want some pictorials of the action from that scenario to remind you what it was like, feel free to visit http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/scenarios/200811_battleOfBritain2008/battle_britain_2008.htm ).
The patch for this scenario is finally produced, and all pilots who would like a patch are encouraged to send e-mail to Roscoroo ( roscoroo "at" hotmail.com ) requesting one. That's all you have to do -- just send him your physical mail address, and you'll get one. Also, as noted on this page http://electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/patches/patches.html , there are patches available from past scenarios as well -- let Roscoroo know if you want any of the past patches and which you want.
Please do not send me your request for getting a patch -- Roscoroo is the one to contact about that. He has very generously volunteered his time and effort to do the mailings. Thank you very much, Roscoroo!
The next patch to be produced will be one for the "Tunisia: Dawn of Battle", a scenario which starts on April 11 (next Saturday). We are starting the process of gathering donations enough to total about US$250 to start that patch run. If you'd like to contribute to that effort, please see http://electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/patches/patches.html for information. For those of you who donated generously in the past (and there are several of you), there is no need to donate again -- please make sure to request your patches.
Thanks, all, and I hope to see each of you in the Tunisia scenario starting Saturday. (Information on the Tunisia scenario is here: http://ahevents.org/pacific-theatre/current-or-next-scenario-2.html ).
Best regards,
-- Brooke
-
Have many people already received these? Many still waiting?
-
I haven't received mine yet
SKWing19
-
Still waiting.
-
Still waiting here.... :noid :x
-
Definitely send Roscoroo a PM or e-mail (roscoroo "at" hotmail.com) -- as I think he has been all done with the mailing for a while. So, it might be that some requests fell through.
-
AFAIK, Roscoroo had a computer "meltdown" and he lost lots of data. I was just wondering if many people had already received their patches. E.g. I am among those who have not.
Maybe all should resend their requests?
-
Definitely send Roscoroo a PM or e-mail (roscoroo "at" hotmail.com) -- as I think he has been all done with the mailing for a while. So, it might be that some requests fell through.
All is well for me, sent him a new email. I have the 2006 patch, not the 2008.
I don't see where I emailed him a request. My fault.
-
Yep, resend your requests if you haven't gotten your BoB patch.
I'll also e-mail registered BoB pilots to spread the word that folks should request again if they haven't gotten their BoB patches by now.
-
I resent a request and as of yet have not received my patch.
SKWing19
-
Folks, Roscoroo ran into some large real-life issues to deal with. It totally put a stop to him mailing out patches.
We're working on getting patch mailing back up and going.
Until then, sorry for the down time, and also best wishes to Roo during a difficult time.
I will let folks know here (and also send out an e-mail) once we have mailing back up and going.
-
Real life matters are second to none, hope Roo gets it all worked out. Til then we wait patently for the little ol Circles of artwork. :)
-
Take all the time you need
Hope all is well
SKWing19
-
Agreed on those comments. Life goes on.
These patches are a nice gesture, and are a luxury. That means "not necessary," so do what you have to Rosco.
-
We can have patches anytime. Certainly not a show stopper for me!
Best Wishes Rosco :salute
-
Now that Coral Sea is over, I'm getting back on the patch system, to get it back up and going again.
I will keep people notified of developments.
-
Thanks guys , Hopefully things will get back to somewhat normality soon.... I'm still in the soup line and currently eyeballing cardboard boxes as future housing .
-
We are thinking good thought for you Rosco... :pray
-
I got patches from Roo this week.
Now, I just need to get the list of people from him, and we'll re-start the mailing out process for the BoB 2008 patches.
-
:aok
Is the list complete, or should we email you our adressess again... just in case?
-
Hello, pilots of Battle of Britain 2008.
If you did not yet get your patch (pictured above), please go to this web page and request one, and I'll mail it to you:
http://electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/patches/patches.html
The patch-mailing process got derailed by some significant real-life issues that befell Roscoroo, who had been very kindly handling all of the mailing. Fortunately, things are getting back on track for Roo. In the meantime, I'm taking on the mailing. So, for those of you who requested patches previously and didn't yet get them, please use the web page listed above, and I'll get them to you.
The next scenario will be "Red Storm/Krupp Steel", a late-war Germany vs. Soviet Union battle, which will run in later October. More information is here: http://ahevents.org/pacific-theatre/current-or-next-scenario.html
All of you are up for some late-war Eastern Front action, right? I'm looking forward to seeing all of you (and your squad mates and friends) in Red Storm/Krupp Steel! :)
Best regards,
-- Brooke
-
Received mine in the mail today. :x Very nice! Put it with my Rangoon '42 2008. I still need to get a
jacket to sew them on. Maybe by the time I get Tunisia:Dawn of Battle & Coral Sea 2009 I will have one.
Thanks again Brooke.

Recieved it on Saturday, thanks Brooke!
-
Brooke,
Got em Rangoon and BoB, many thanks! :salute
-
Got mine in 1st class condition, in spite of the postal services attempt to run it through the meat grinder. They got the wrong end of the envelope. :D

Just received mine yesterday :)
Thanks again, Brooke! :salute

Time for Coral Sea 2009 patch.
Tunisia is almost produced, and we need to get Coral Sea 2009 going.
Let's see if we can get a design posted here:
