If this passes into Ecuadors constitution, then the government has a blank check to protect all of Ecuador from it's citizens (nationalise all property and own it as its guardian)......This may more to do with trying to sue(extort) billions of dollars from Chevron due to allegations Chevron polluted the environment while working leases.

Just watch as california trys something like this if it passes in Ecuador. I can hear it now after it passes in kalifornia....State Tropper: Mr. Laz you have to vacate your property because your gun ownership has been deemed a hazzard to the properties well being and saftey. As a defined hazzard to the rights and well being of the property I am authorized by the properties guardian(gov of kalifornia) to confiscate all of your firearms and ammo and escort you to the property line.

A new law of nature
Ecuador next week votes on giving legal rights to rivers, forests and air.
Is this the end of damaging development? The world is watching
Clare Kendall The Guardian, Wednesday September 24 2008
The South American republic of Ecuador will next week consider what many countries in the world would say is unthinkable. People will be asked to vote on Sunday on a new constitution that would give Ecuador's tropical forests, islands, rivers and air similar legal rights to those normally granted to humans. If they vote yes - and polls show that 56% are for and only 23% are against - then an already approved bill of rights for nature will be introduced, and new laws will change the legal status of nature from being simply property to being a right-bearing entity.

I will be watching this one. If it passes Laz and I both know stranger things have become law in Liberal dominated kalifornia.
